Chapter Eight:

I rolled out of my bed, trudging to the bathroom to get ready. A week full of school to look forward to. Go me. After getting dressed, I glanced up at the mirror, satisfied with my appearance. Today was a loose jeans and t-shirt kind of day for me, with no makeup and my hair thrown up. Running down to the kitchen I grabbed an apple for breakfast and then I picked up my bag by the front door and headed out and over to Ky’s house. Stopping before I reached her yard, I doubled back remembering that we were taking my car today.

Not long after I got into the car and started it, Kyrie appeared in the passenger seat, “Ready to go to school?”

“Not really. I wanted to sleep more. For some reason I am overly tired. This weekend was too eventful for my taste.”

She giggled as she threw her stuff into the backseat, “Yeah, I don’t think I had a chance to relax at all. I stayed up until one doing my stupid Algebra homework.”

“Nice,” I replied.  For the rest of the drive to school we remained silent, too tired to start another conversation. Once we got to the school we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways, not even bothering to look for our friends today.

By 3rd period I was ready to call it a day, but I still had four more classes after lunch. Glancing at the clock I noticed there was still another ten minutes of Algebra left until lunch. I groaned and laid my head on my desk.

I felt a tug on my shirt and turned around to see Hailee smirking, “Trying to sleep in class? Shame on you!”

“Who me? No I would never try and sleep in class,” I giggled.

“Well it looks to me you were trying to go to sleep. You’ve been zoned out most of class to. We have been trying to talk to you for the whole period.”

Riley laughed and gave me a grin, “I even tried to wave my hand in front of your eyes but you didn’t even blink. You were just staring at the board, I was waiting for you to just fall asleep and begin drooling, sitting up.”

My cheeks heated up and I tried to hide my face with my hand, “I do not drool thank you. I’m just really tired. I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention to you two.”

The bell rang and we got out of our seats to head towards the front doors to meet the rest of our friends. I lost Hailee and Riley in the crowd and decided to turn back and go to my locker and put my books in there before meeting everyone for lunch. As soon as I turned around I was knocked onto the ground, everything I was holding crashed to the ground around me.

 “Watch where you’re going, idiot.”

I looked up and saw Bradin, narrowing my eyes I replied, “Idiot? Gee someone is in a wonderful mood today. If I remember correctly you were the one who ran into me seeing as I’m the one on the ground.”

He looked down at me as if seeing me for the first time, his face void of all emotion, “I’m sorry Gabby, I didn’t know it was you. I’m sorry for knocking you down.”

He held a hand out to help me up and once I was on my feet he bent down and began to pick up my books in silence. He handed them to me, gave me a small smile and turned and walked away without another word.

I wonder what his problem is; I thought as I gave up and just headed outside to leave for lunch. Once outside I noticed Riley and Kyrie were the only ones waiting on me.

“Sorry Gabs, everyone else left because they were starving.”

“Let’s take my car and go to the Chinese place for lunch,” Riley suggested.
