that i don't need no other lover
"Hello?" Cas answered the phone.
"Hey, Cas!" Dean replied cheerily on the other line.
Cas's face broke out into a huge grin when he heard Dean's familiar voice. Only one day had past and yet he had missed him so much. "How's the new place?" He asked, lying down on his bed and closing his eyes, picturing that they were right next to each other instead of miles away.
"It's pretty nice. Bobby has a lot of weird books though, I've always wandered if he's some kind of Satan worshiper... Like, listen to this, 'A Guide to Hunting Demons and How They're Created'."
Cas laughed. "Are they all like that?"
"Yeah! And his house is overflowing with them! Every time Sammy asks him about it he changes the subject." Dean replied, mocking hysteria. "What about you? How's school without the fabulous Winchesters?"
Cas choked back a sob. It was awful. Without Dean being beside him, people weren't afraid to call him 'faggot' and make gay jokes every time they saw him. But he couldn't tell Dean that. "A whole lot better." He joked.
"Ouch, my heart!"
Cas chuckled. "No, but honestly, I really miss you. You sure that you came come visit this Saturday?"
"I will if you really want me to, my ribs'll heal eventually."
"No, no, don't do that. You need to heal. But I really do miss you."
"I miss you, too, baby." Dean replied, his voice cracking a little at the end.
They were silent for a little while, trying to find something else to talk about that would erase all of the sadness from everything. Not that anything could truly do so, but the distraction would be nice.
"Have you started going to school yet?" Cas asked.
Dean laughed. "Thank god I haven't. I don't think I'd be able to handle it, honestly. I don't know how you're getting through this."
I'm not. Cas thought to himself, but he laughed along anyway. "What about Sam?"
"Yeah, he's already gotten into a nerd group and all the teachers love him."
"I wish I could be him." Cas laughed sadly.
"Me too." Dean chuckled. "That kid's going to big places and I couldn't be more proud of him."
Cas grinned to himself. This was one of the many reasons why he loved Dean Winchester, despite not being as successful as others, he still has an undying love for them and he can be incredibly proud of them without getting jealous.
"Is anyone being an ass to you over there?" Dean asked the dreaded question and made Cas cringe a little.
"Oh, you know, it's the usual dumb ass insult here and there, nothing I can't handle." Cas lied.
"Cas, if you really want me to I can come over there and-"
"No, no, really, it's fine. I only have to make it through one more day there."
"And then the next few weeks after Winter Break."
"Dean, it's not a big deal. Okay?"
Dean sighed in frustration. They were quiet for a little while longer. "Hey, I have an idea."
