The balloon landed on the beach where Nora and I agreed to meet. It’s like he'd plan all this out. He hopped out of the balloon with such elegance and raised his arms to catch me. I tried to mimic his smooth technique, but my arms were wobbly as I lowered myself. I felt Riley's strong grip around my waist sooner than I'd expected.
He lowered me gracefully to the ground. His fingers spread out around my rib cage, just a thin white T-shirt away from my skin. His arms were still around me when my feet touched the sand. I was about to thank him, but when I looked up into his eyes, I got tongue-tied. His hazel eyes grew intense as he held my gaze. I couldn't help myself but to drew him closer to me and he leaned as to respond. He planted a sweet kiss on my lips. I reached for his hand and lace my fingers into his.
The bonfire was packed with people, mostly girls. We saw Connor, Toby, Braiden and Thomas in the middle of the bonfire encircled by fan girls. They seemed to be performing.
I noticed two familiar faces beside the guys, it was Austin and Nora. Oh right! Austin was a friend of Braiden, I thought.
Toby lifted his chin and noticed us walking toward them. "Oh great Riley's here!" He shouted.
He stood up and started running toward us. However, before he could reach us, all the girls who were somehow encircling the band turned toward us, surrounding both us instead.
They were asking so many questions, asking to sign too many stuff. They were just so many people around us. My head began to throb and I felt really dizzy all of a sudden. I couldn't move at all since Riley was holding my hand tightly while trying to accommodate everyone. I started to feel claustrophobic. I gasped for air but I could breathe at all. Finally when Riley let go of my hand to sign a shirt, I saw my opportunity and slipped away.
I ran as far as I could then finally far away from the heart of the beach where the bonfire laid, I saw a quiet place at the northern side of the beach. It was peaceful. I could barely hear anyone from here anymore. I sighed in relief. I could finally breathe.
I sat on the sand and lost myself in a deep thought about what had happened earlier that night. I ran my finger through my lips. I could still feel the taste of sea salt in his lips. I never thought I could this again. Daniel and I used to kiss a lot before; it felt similar but somehow different too. I never felt with Daniel what I felt when my lips were intertwined with Riley's.
"Hey!" A familiar male voice said.
I tilted my head in order to see him clearly. He stood before me, his glowing blue eyes and his blonde hair which was all messed up from the wind. It was Connor, Riley's brother. "May I?"
I patted the sand as though I agreed. He sat beside me in a tucking position. "I saw you running away. I figured you needed someone to talk to. Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I just needed some air." I said.
He studied me with full of concern. "You do know that he really likes you, right? I helped him organize this whole thing. Don't tell him I told you, okay? I never saw him like this before, not at all."
I could feel my face reddening. "What do you mean?"
“He brought you to the park, didn’t he?” I nodded and he continued. “That park was very special for him. Riley really liked this girl named Eleina, loved even. He had always loved her ever since he was five years old. Unfortunately she passed away when he was 14. He still bares the trauma of seeing her die. The park was their secret place, our secret place since Eleina was a good friend of the family.”
