Chapter Four
“Well, you’ve grown up a lot.”
“Excuse me?” I asked. Drake was seated at the kitchen bar looking at me with a smirk. He repeated himself. I must’ve looked really confused because he sighed and explained, “I’ve known Alicia since I was born and I’ve seen baby pictures of you.”
I blushed and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge. “Of course I’ve grown up! I’m sixteen almost seventeen!”
“You know my name, but I don’t remember yours and why are you here?” he asked nonchalantly.
“The question is why are you here?” I looked over at the book club in the living room. They couldn’t hear our conversation. “And if you must know, my name is Maribel.
“Well Mabel, My grandma is in the book club and doesn’t trust me home alone, so you get to babysit me.” He smirked again. He had a cute smirk.
“First of all, no, now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to my room,” I said as I grabbed an apple and headed to the other room. I stopped, “And my name isn’t Mabel!”
“It is now.”
I sat down on my bed and looked out the window at the now pouring rain and sighed.
“So you live here?” I almost fell off the bed. I whipped my head to see Drake standing in the doorway looking around. I didn’t even hear him come in here. I stared at his amazing green eyes. He smirked and I snapped out of it.
“Haven’t you ever heard of knocking?” I stood up infuriated.
He ignored me and continued looking around until he sat on the bed next to me.
“Nice place,” he laughed lying on his back, his hands behind his head.
“Shut up,” I said heading towards the door. He had no idea what I’ve been through; A dad that doesn’t talk to you, being alone, having a mom that left you, living with your grandma. He understands none of that.
Drake still followed me into the living room. Can he just leave me alone? I’ve been here for a day! I ran through the apartment and didn’t stop until I reached the park. As I was running I tripped and fell back into some one’s arms. I looked up to see bright blue eyes looking into mine. I stood up and dusted myself off.
“Thanks,” I blushed.
He laughed. “It’s fine. You were running pretty fast.”
I smiled, shivering as I stood there in the rain.
“I’m Kaleb by the way,” he smiled. My heart melted at his smile.
“I’m Maribel.”
“That’s pretty, like you.”
I blushed and rubbed my arm covered in goosebumps.
“I’m guessing you’re not from here,” Kaleb laughed.
“I’m from Nevada. It’s hot in the summer.” I looked at the sky. It was dark grey and the rain had stopped leaving a fresh cool scent.
Stepping over a puddle I continued, “I’m staying with my grandma for the summer and I didn’t have much time to pack.”
