The beach was full of teenagers. Clear christmas lights hung from tree to tree and a DJ table was set up in a corner. You could buy snacks and drinks from the shack further away. I started walking up towards the party. It wasn’t quite dark yet, so some guys were surfing in the ocean and some song by Justin Bieber was blaring. My phone buzzed with a text from Myah.

Running late, see you in twenty minutes! :)

Great. Now I was stuck alone. I looked around at the groups of people laughing and dancing. I knew no one.

“Maribel?” I heard someone yell behind me.

I turned around to see Kaleb walking towards me smiling.

He blushed, “I was going to invite you, but you didn’t feel so good, so I didn’t think you

would come,” He scratched the back of his neck. He clearly felt bad for not asking.

“It’s fine. A friend asked me to come!” I smiled.

“Hey Kaleb?” A guy yelled from a group. “You up for football?”

    “Nah, maybe later!”

“You can go,” I said not wanting to take time away from him.

    “I’d rather be with you.”

I blushed. We walked over to the shack and he bought us sodas.

He took a sip from the can, “Follow me and I’ll introduce you to some people,” He took my hand and we walked to a group.

Some people waved when we got there.

“Guys, this is Maribel.” There were a couple waves and “hi’s” exchanged and everyone immediately turned back to talking.

Kaleb and I sat on a bench. His hair was wet and he was sporting blue swim trunks and a white tank top. Why was he so perfect?

He leaned in closer to me. I could smell the salt from the water and droplets fell off his hair onto my lap. His arm snaked around my waist pulling me closer to him. Our lips were an inch apart.

“Oh there you are! I have been looking for you everywhere!” Myah yelled breaking us apart.

“Hey, I think I’ll go play some football now,” Kaleb left clearly embarrassed.

    “Whoops!” Myah said, “Sorry.”

“No, we’re just friends. I’m glad you found me! I was lonely!”

She shook her head, “Not that lonely,” she winked, “Anyways, I had to drop the kids off at activities.”

“This late?”

“Ya, I get discounts if they go to the last times.”

“How old are all of them?” I asked.

“The twin boys, Alex and Michael are 7, Kylie is 8, Amalia is 6  and Ethan is 10.”

“Wow. Amalia was only a year old when they passed.”

“Ya, they were all very young.”

Noticing Myah’s smile fade, I changed the subject, “Do you want to swim?”

“Sure, I usually just hang out at the front of the ocean. I am terrified to go out too far.”

“I don’t blame you!”

We head to the ocean. Since it had gotten later people lit some torches and many were hanging

out in the ocean. I stripped down to my bathing suit and Myah did the same.I threw my clothes in my beach bag along with my phone. Myah was wearing a dark navy cut out bustier bikini top and coral colored bottoms. I had on my favorite bathing suit; a floral bandeau bikini top and hipster black bottoms.
