I have been sitting in the bakery for ten minutes now. Myah texted me saying she needed to meet me here because she needed my help.
As I refreshed my Twitter for the twelfth time a stressed out Myah practically sprints to my table.
I slide the mug full of coffee to her, “It’s kinda cold, but I expected you to be here earlier.”
She took a big gulp and removed her black jacket, “Thanks and sorry about that. My neighbor said she would watch the kids for an hour, so I have to make this quick.”
“It’s okay, I understand.”
“Okay, so when my parents passed away no family offered to take us in. That’s why my situation is like this now. Anyways, I got a call last night. It was my aunt. She said she wants to see me and the kids. She has two kids and she wants them to meet me. I really don’t know what to do. They will be here at four in the afternoon. I know it’s short notice, but I can’t say no to family. I need your help, if you wouldn’t mind, to help with the kids and cooking, so I make a good first impression when they come.”
This seems weird. The thought of her aunt coming to her now after all of this time. Something about this situation seems suspicious. I decide to let it go and go to Myah’s house. I never have actually seen it before and would love to meet her siblings.
As Myah unlocks the door and older lady sighs, “Myah, I love the kids and all, but I can’t keep doing this.”
“I know, thank you Mrs. Smith.” Myah says as the lady leaves.
We enter the huge living room. I wasn’t expecting this, but then I remember Myah saying it was her grandparent’s and it was paid off. Down the hallway a huge staircase circles up to the second floor. The kitchen is quite large as well. A white double door fridge stands next to the large wood table with mix and match chairs around it.
Myah whistles and all the kids run into the living room making me laugh.
“This is Maribel, she will be with us today helping me, so I want you all on your best behavior! Got it?” Myah asks, receiving nods and thumbs ups.
“Maribel, this is Alex and this is Michael,” she says and the two little boys say hi and run off.
“I’m Kylie!” a little girl says to me. She’s absolutely gorgeous with her long deep brown hair, tan skin and beautiful eyes. Her eyes were the first thing that caught my attention. They are the same deep green as Drake’s. They sparkle like emeralds, just like his…
“Nice to meet you Kylie,” I bend down to her level.
“And this is Amalia, she’s six,” she introduces me to the tiny girl. She has lighter green eyes, more like Myah’s, but her hair is light brown and curly.
“I is Amalia. I like your hair and your shoes and your...um… I like your hair,” Amalia stutters.
“She’s in extra speech classes, but she still has a lot of trouble talking,” Myah whispers and I nod.
“I’m Ethan,” the older boy says to me and puts out his hand for me to shake.
I laugh, “I’m Maribel, it’s very nice to meet you!”
He blushes and skips off.
There’s a loud scratching noise and whimpers coming from down the hallway.
Myah sighs as I follow her to the backdoor, “Did you guys forget to open the dog door again?” she shouts through the huge house. It echoes slightly.
