I woke up feeling so much better. I had so much energy and felt amazing. Kaleb was the sweetest. I hopped out of bed in the best mood. I was happy. I can’t remember the last time I was happy.
I slipped into a pair of Hollister shorts and fitted pink v-neck. I lightly curled my hair and applied a simple amount of makeup. I went to into the living room and my grandma left me a note.
‘Meet me at the bakery. Today will be super busy since it’s a weekend. I hope you don’t mind helping.’
I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and walked to the bakery. Once I walked in I was surrounded by the busy chatter of guests drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying some banana bread before heading to work.
“This place is packed!” I said to my grandma as I met her behind the counter. She was wore out already and clearly tired.
“Ya, it’s always like this on the weekend. I need you to help at the register. Drake is clearing tables.” she said in a rush. We made our way to the register.
“Maribel, this is Myah. Myah, this is my granddaughter Maribel.” my grandmother swiftly went off to help a guest that was complaining his coffee wasn’t hot enough.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Myah smiled, “I work weekends for your grandma. She’s hilarious.”
I laughed, “She is one of a kind. I’m just here with her for the summer.”
“Cool. You have the prettiest eyes I have ever seen!” She gasped.
“Thanks,” I blushed. “So you’re in highschool?”
“Ya, I’m eighteen, but I don’t graduate yet. I had to repeat ninth grade!”
“I turn seventeen on July 1st.”
She smiled and turned to help a customer. I feel like I’ve made a friend. My first friend of the trip. She was kind and pretty. Her light brown hair fell just above her shoulders and she had dark green eyes. She was tall and thin and wore deep black shredded jeans and an oversized grey sweater.
“Hi, what can I help you with today?” I smiled at the young woman standing in front of the register.
“Hello, I need one dozen donuts,” I nodded getting out the box and paper.
“Three chocolate, three cinnamon rolls, two raspberry filled, two glazed, and two pink frosted with sprinkles.”
I closed the box of donuts and rang her up.
“Perks of working in an office,” she said sarcastically while handing me the money.
I smiled, “Have a good day.”
“I have a cake for pick up,” a tall pale woman with glossy brown hair said.
“Name?” I asked smiling at the little blonde girl that held her hand.
“Beverly Henderson.”
I went to the back and pulled a large pink frosted cake from the back.
“Here you go and it shows you already payed,” I handed her a bag with a cake slicer and paper plates, forks, and napkins.
“Thanks,” she smiled weakly.
“Oh, that lady is so strong!” My grandma came up behind me.
“Huh?”
“That’s a wig,” she explained, “She has two different types of cancer.
