My birthday was meant to be a family event, but by the time the clocked had struck nine o’clock, the house was packed with students. I'm happy that the power is working again but a lot of houses around the school didn’t have it and, therefore, all came to our house. Jordan's here with his friends. Although we hadn’t had school since Jordan and I got together, everyone seemed to have found out about my birthday, and I knew this when Craig turned up and handed me pizza saying my brother was throwing a party for me. My parents had gone out, I was sitting on the counter of the kitchen, and people kept passing me with one of two things. The first was 'happy birthday' and some people would hand me a drink and say cheers. The others, more from girls and the occasional gay guys, would ask about me and Jordan. I told most of them to go away because I didn’t like talking to people I didn’t really know. I didn’t trust very many people, and that’s why I ended up being friends with Tyler’s friends than trying to find my own.

I'm currently sipping down my third beer, and it only been an hour since the party had begun. My eyes are darting around the room, checking out the scene before me. There are only a few people in the kitchen, one looks a little out of place. She's dressed in an oversized checkered shirt and has her glasses pushed on her nose. Her hair is a little on the frizzy side and she had it in hanging over her face. She doesn’t look like she belongs here but I don’t think she is sober. She's swaying a little and so, I walk over to her. She may have been my age or younger, maybe older, I just don’t have a clue who she is.

“Are you okay?” I ask. She releases a small hiccup and nods her head.

She looks over me and says, “Why are you talking to me? Everyone loves you and no one notices me. I'm just a bit of dirt on the school hallway.”

I'm kind of confused by her bluntness but I still say, “Okay, so what’s your name?”

“Unbelievable. Are you really that self-centered,” She snaps at me. Just as I am about to respond, Harrison walks into the room and looks over to the girl and I.

He notices the tension and says to the girl, “Piss off. If you didn’t want to come, you shouldn’t have come.”

“Harrison, you are just like every other guy in this town: You fall at her feet and you fucking hate me and I'm blood. She is self-centered and yet, you do anything for her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up with a dead-end job and before long, she’ll be behind bars," She glares at me before growling, "You’re a slut and you belong with the scum in this town! No wonder you have ended up with Jordan because he is about as low as you can get.” Before I know what I'm doing, I lift the beer I'm holding over her head and tip it over, making it splash everywhere. I then walk to a fridge and pull out the eggs while Harrison just stands there shocked and unable to move. The girl is pulling her beer-soaked hair out her face. I dump the eggs on her hair and she lets out a scream, “You fucking bitch!”

“You can call me a lot of things but scum is not one of them.” By now, the kitchen door has opened and people are trying to find out what is happening.

A load of flashes are surrounding the room but the girl doesn’t seem to care that beer and egg are mixed into her hair because she walks up to me and says, “But Scarlett, don’t you understand that you are scum because, frankly, the only reason you get what you want is because you act like a slut. No one really likes you. No wonder you were sent away to boarding school because your parents didn’t even care. You probably slept with every guy at your school and came here because you ran out of them.”
