I took a deep breath as I stood outside Ray's front door. I rang the doorbell and a lady who I assumed was Ray's mom came to the door.
"Hello! Welcome! Welcome! Please come in! You must be Alexandra! It is so nice to meet you!" She chirped as she pulled me into a hug.
I smiled, " Thank you for having me over! It's really nice to meet you as well Mrs.Toro!". Just at the moment as if on queue Ray walked down the stairs welcomed me and told me to come to to his room, so I followed him upstairs.
"So, you've met my mom" He chuckled, "Yeah, she's really weird!''
"No! Well I mean yes, I've met her but she's so nice!"
"Sure," he told me sarcastically, "by the way you look great!" I thanked him and then the doorbell rang so I followed Ray downstairs.
His mom was already opening the door I took a look and saw a boy about Ray's height (who by the way is about half a head taller than me). He had black/dark brown hair and wore glasses, he looked a bit shy but rather nice.
"Hello Mikey! You're just on time!" Mrs.Toro said happily as she turned around to go to the dining room she told us dinner would be ready in five minutes.
Then Mikey turned to us and said, "Hey Ray! Hey...Lexa?"
I smiled, "Yeah, Alexandra, Alexa, Lexa, Lexi and Alex all work!" Ray chuckled and lead us to the dining table. We took our seats which was- Ray's dad next to Ray's mom who was beside Ray next to me, then Mikey.
"Well Alexandra, Ray told us you moved from Macau! So are you originally from Macau?" asked Mr.Toro.
I smiled, "I'm half Portuguese, half Chinese so pretty much yes as Macau is in China but was originally a Portuguese colony."
"That's very interesting!" Mr.Toro replied.
Ray's mom asked if it was true that I lived with my grandparents, I told her "Yes, I was born in Portugal and lived with my mom and dad until they got divorced when I was one years old which is when I moved to England with my mom. I lived there until I was four years old, she decided to have me live with my grandparents in Macau as she was struggling. I would go to the UK to visit my parents every summer as my dad moved to Scotland. So I grew up in Macau and my grandparents and I moved to New Jersey for my grandpa's job."
Everyone looked a little surprised, no one said anything for a while so I ate a few bites of food before Ray's dad questioned me, "So, you must be billingual! What languages do you speak?"
I thought for two seconds then said, "I speak English fluently, Chinese, Portuguese not too badly and I'm trying to teach myself German!" I chuckled.
"Wow!" exclaimed Ray, "That's awesome."
"Oh, and I understand some French, Italian and Spanish as well since it's similar to Portuguese." I smiled.
We spent the next twenty minutes or so not saying much, answering a few questions now and then.
