"What do you mean I died?" I whisper in shock.
"You died. The serum that we gave you saved you." He explains, looking guilty. "I saw you die."
"How could you not tell me?!" I exclaim angrily. "You don't hide this kind of thing from somebody!"
"I'm so sorry, Amy." He has a tortured expression on his face, seeing my anger. "I thought that it would freak you out. I think meant to tell you sooner, but I kept on putting it off."
"So, again, you try tried to protect me when I don't need protecting. Oh, that's just perfect." I say, laughing humorlessly.
"It's not exactly easy to tell somebody that they died." He defends himself.
"I don't care!" I yell. "Have the balls to tell me! How could you hide this from me? You've been holding it in all this time, when I could have helped you!"
"Oh, that's great, coming from you." He says sarcastically and I stare at him in disbelief.
"I haven't been lying to you. I haven't been keeping any secrets this big from you."
"Amy, please."
"Get out." I say through gritted teeth. He makes no move to leave. "I said, get out!" I yell. He looks at me sadly, then he's gone in a flash. I don't cry until he's gone.
He lied to me. This was the first lie he's told me since I met him and it's a big lie. I died. I understand that it was probably hard for him to watch, and I'm sorry he had to go through it, but he had no right to keep this from me. Finally, I go in my room, lock the door, and fall asleep.
I wake up to pounding at my door. "What?" I yell at whoever's there.
"Amy?" I hear Lexi call. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" I lie.
"I made steak, do you want some?" she asks.
"I'm good!" I really just don't feel like leaving the room and have Lexi see how upset I am. But, unfortunately, I'm unsuccessful, because somebody knocks on door a couple of hours later. I don't answer, deciding to pretend that I'm sleeping. I hear the door open, and I'm confused. When did Lexi learn how to pick locks?
"I know you're not sleeping." I hear Connor say.
"Did you just open my door using your powers?" He chuckles and I sigh. "What are you doing here?"
"Lexi's worried about you. You didn't want any steak." If I weren't so upset, I would laugh. Steak is one of my favorite foods and I've never said no to it.
"Get out." I say, angry at him as well for not telling me about me dying. He stand there in silence for a minute, shocked at my hostility.
"Woah, what did I do?" he asks. "I thought that Emmett screwed up and I was gonna have to kick his ass." Finally, I turn around in my bed so that I'm facing him.
"How could you not tell me that I died?" He nods, finally understanding why I'm mad.
"He told you." It's not a question. "He said he would tell you when the time was right. I just thought it would be sooner than just now. I would have just told you, but he knew you best. I had only just met you."
"So it was his idea?" I ask, even more angry with him. "I guess I understand why you did it. You barely knew me."
"Still, I could have told you all this time, but I didn't." He sits on the edge of my bed. "He just thought it was what was best for you." I feel tears of anger gather in my eyes again.
"But by lying?"
"I'm not saying it was right, I'm saying that he did the wrong thing with good intentions." I sniffle.
"Aren't you supposed to not like my boyfriend or something? Isn't it part of the whole brother thing?" He laughs.
"Another part of the whole brother thing is wanting what's best for your sister. And even though he can be an idiot, he takes care of you."
"He lied to me though!" I exclaim. "About something big! How is that taking care of me?"
"I told you, I know it wasn't right. I just think that you shouldn't throw everything you guys have away over this." I sigh.
"I guess you're right."
"I'm always right." He's smirking now and I resist the urge to smack him in the head. Instead, I get out of bed and we hug.
"Thank you." I say.
"You can thank me by taking my advice." he answers.
