"No." Emmett says stubbornly. "Absolutely not."
"What happened to letting me take care of myself?" I remind him.
"That's when you're not doing something completely idiotic."
"It's not idiotic!" I argue. "How else are we supposed to find him?"
"In a way that keeps you safe."
"I will be safe!" I say. "You and Connor will be there the whole time, just hiding. Can you at least listen to my plan?" He sighs.
"Fine, but I'm probably not gonna agree to it." I roll my eyes, but tell him my plan.
"It's actually kind of a good idea." Brett admits when I'm done. "She'd be pretty safe." Emmett glares at him.
"But what if something goes wrong?" Emmett says. "Amy, I don't think I can take losing you again." His voice cracks at the end and I feel sympathy for him, but I need to stop Alex.
"I'll be fine." I reassure him. "If anything goes wrong, you and Connor will be there to help."
"Okay." I look at him in surprise. "I guess there is no other way."
It takes a lot to convince Connor to go a long with the plan, a lot more than Emmett surprisingly. But he finally agrees. So, that night, I'm at Emmett's apartment, preparing for the plan.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Connor asks me about the tenth time. "You don't have to if you don't want to, you know."
"I've told you, I'll be fine." I answer him. "I'm the one who came up with the plan, so clearly I'm okay with it." He really isn't a plan of it at all. Brett hands me, Emmett, and Connor earpieces.
"These are so I can talk to you and you can talks to each other in case anything goes wrong." he explains.
"We'll be with you the entire time Amy." Emmett tells me reassuringly.
"I feel like I'm in a spy movie or something." I joke. Nobody laughs. "Okay, can you guys please just stop acting like I'm about to get killed or something? This is ridiculous, you're starting to freak me out."
"We're just worried, that's all." Connor says. "We don't want you to get hurt."
"Let's just go. okay?" I start to walk out the door, but Emmett grabs my wrist, pulling me back into a hug.
"I don't care what it takes, just keep yourself safe, okay?" he whispers into my ear. "Catching Alex isn't our top priority tonight, you're safety is." I nod into his chest, and he kisses the top of my head before releasing me. Lexi, who wanted to be here with Brett to make sure everything goes okay, hugs me as well.
"If you die, I'll kill you." I laugh.
"I'll be fine, Lexi." Finally, I step out the door to the street. Emmett and Connor are staying in the apartment for now. As I walk down the street, I start to feel afraid. I've been running away from Alex for years, and now I want him to come for me? A year ago, this would have sounded insane to me.
"You alright, Amy?" Emmett says over the device in my ear.
"I just left like a minute ago." I answer. "What could have gone wrong since then?"
"Do you see anyone following you?" I shake my head, then realize he can't see me.
"No." I walk for five more minutes, with Emmett and Connor asking if I'm fine three more times. Finally, I arrive at my destination. It's the boxing club that Emmett and I had gone to when I first saw Alex again.
"I'm at the boxing club." I whisper.
"Okay, now there should be a keypad next to the door." Brett says. He's right. "Punch in the code 4-0-3-9." I listen. "Okay, the door should be open now." Again, he's correct. I walk in and since the place is closed, it's empty. We didn't want innocent people here when Alex shows up. I walk up to one of the punching bags, thinking of the first fighting lesson that Emmett and I had. It was the first time I showed him that I was was vulnerable. I smile at the memory, even though it's an emotional one.
"You just have to wait for Alex now." Emmett says. I take out the pair of boxing gloves I brought and start punching the bag. After about a half hour of doing this, nobody comes.
"Guys, I don't think he's coming." I finally say, upset because my plan didn't work.
"I'm sorry Amy." Brett says. "I know you really wanted to catch him."
"I'm gonna walk back." I leave the club, and soon I hear footsteps behind me. "Guys, I think somebody's following me."
"We're on our way." Emmett says. "Wait for us before you fight them." It doesn't matter if I listen to him or not, because I feel arms grab me from behind. I scream.
"Amy?!" I hear Connor shout. "Are you okay?!" I don't answer him. Instead I elbow my attacker in the chest and spin around. I'm surprised when I see a man wearing all black standing in front of me instead of Alex.
"It's not Alex." I say. "I think it's one of the guys that escaped from the lab!" Then, two guys fly above us and land next to him. "I take that back." I hear Emmett and Connor sigh in relief before I finish my statement. "There's three of them now!" I back away slowly, but, unfortunately, they have super speed.
One of them picks me up with ease and throws me into the wall of a brick building next to us. I cry out in pain when I hit my head. I weakly open my eyes and see the three men standing in front of me. I cower in fear, but one of them picks me up again and throws me over. I kick and scream but he doesn't release me. Instead, he flies into the air. It hits me then- I'm being kidnapped.
"Guys, a little help would be nice!" I yell into the earpiece. I feel something, no, someone crash into my kidnapper and he releases me. I almost fall, but I catch myself before I hit the ground using my powers. I see Emmett fighting the man who had tried to take me in midair. Connor is fighting another one, and I'm left fighting the last man. "You're never gonna get a girl if you treat her like that." I say to him, but he doesn't reply. Instead, he moves toward me threateningly. I throw fire at him, and he falls to the ground. I float down to the ground to make sure he stays down, but he gets up as if nothing happened. As if he didn't just fall twenty feet to the ground. Shit.
I electrocute him and he falls to the ground screaming. I have to admit, that was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Suddenly, Connor comes crashing down to the ground in front of me. He lands on the ground, not moving.
"Connor!" I run towards him to make sure he's okay, but the man who I thought was unconscious grabs me from behind, restraining me. The man Connor had been fighting lands next to him and puts his hands around his neck. "No! Let him go!" I struggle to free myself, but I'm unsuccessful. Emmett lands next to them and is about to help Connor, but he's tackled to the ground by the man that he had been fighting. The man holding me throws me against the wall again, and the world goes black for a minute. When I open my eyes, I see the three men flying away. One of them has Emmett over his shoulder, unconscious. "No." I whisper weakly. I hear Brett and Lexi shouting our names over the earpiece. I look over at Connor and see that he's not moving still. I weakly crawl over to him. I start sobbing when I see that he isn't breathing. "Connor!" I scream. I start pressing hard on his chest, doing CPR. Nothing happens. I think of an idea. I throw electricity at his chest, and suddenly he's gasping for air, his eyes wide open and staring at me in shock. I sob in relief, throwing my arms around him.
"What the hell just happened?" he asks when he finally catches his breath.
"We tried to trick Alex." I whisper, my voice trembling. "But he tricked us."
