Emmett POV
"What do you mean Alex is controlling her?" Connor asks when we meet back at the apartment.
"What do you think I mean?" I snap. We're seated at the kitchen table, discussing what had happened with Ivy.
"I don't think she's completely gone though." Lexi says quietly, and we all stare at her in confusion. "She didn't try to kill you." she explains. "She's still somewhere in there, I just know it."
"You're right." I agree, trying to keep myself calm. "We just have to figure out how to get her back."
"I found her!" Brett suddenly exclaims, interrupting us. He's been on the couch, looking at his laptop. "Well, I found the SUV that took her." We all gather around him, looking over his shoulder at the laptop screen. There's a somewhat blurry picture of the SUV outside an abandoned warehouse. The same warehouse where Amy had lost her powers and gotten shot.
"I know that place." I say, getting up from my chair. "Let's go."
"Wait." Lexi grabs my wrist to stop me. "You don't even know how to help her."
"We have to try." Connor says, getting up as well. I try to go to my room to change into my super suit, but Lexi keeps a grip on my wrist for another moment.
"Just bring her back." she whispers.
"I will." I say, determination in my voice. "I will."
An hour later, Connor and I are standing outside of the warehouse.
"She'll be okay." Connor says, and I can tell he's tring to reassure himself more than me. "She has to be." I just walk up to the window of the warehouse and peek inside. I gasp when I see Amy sitting in a chair, staring straight ahead. She isn't even reacting to the two scientists that are poking at her with needles and taking her blood pressure. Alex is sitting in another chair, observing this with a grin on his face. It's as if he was watching some TV show and not an actual human being getting experimented on. I turn back to Connor.
"She's in there." I tell him. We walk towards the door of the warehouse and I think of when Amy and I were here, saving that girl. It was here that I saw her face for the first time, when her hood had fallen from her face. Connor and I decide not to take the stealthy approach and just walk inside. Alex instantly turns around in his seat and sees us. He doesn't look surprised, letting me know that this is a trap. Somehow, seeing how easy this looks, this doesn't surprise me.
"I was wondering when you guys would show up!" he says. "Took you long enough."
"Let her go." I say.
"I kind of like seeing her like this." he says, looking at Amy. "It's kind of cute how vulnerable she is." I clench my jaw in anger.
"You're sick." Connor says in disgust. Alex walks over to where Amy's sitting and strokes her hair. I nearly gag. Connor uses his powers to throw Alex against the wall of the warehouse. The scientists, looking terrified, start to try to escape, but I use my super-speed to catch them and knock them out. I stop in front of Amy and gently put my hands on her face.
"Amy." I say softly. "You have to come back to me baby, please." I hear Alex laugh from where he's pinned against the wall by Connor.
"It's not gonna work!" he calls out smugly. I turn toward him. He's smirking.
"Where's the serum to stop this?" I say in a threatening tone.
"Do you think I'm an idiot?" he says. "I learn from my mistakes. I didn't make one."
"You're lying." Connor says, but I think he's telling the truth. Actually, I know he's telling the truth when I read his mind.
"Connor, he's not lying." I say softly.
"No." he whispers, sounding devastated. "How do we get her back?" I stay silent, not knowing how to. "Emmett, how do we get her back?" His voice becomes louder and more panicked.
"Let me go or I'll have her kill you." Alex says. I laugh humorlessly.
"Do you really think that would work?" I say. "You have to do better than that." His face suddenly lights up, as if he's thought of an idea.
"Amy, put the gun to your head." Amy gets up and I try to stop her by grabbing her wrist. She puts her hand on my arm, causing it to heat up. I let her go out of reflex and before I can stop her, she has a gun that she had picked up from the table aimed at her head.
"Amy!" I scream at the same time that Connor yells "No!"
"I don't want to kill her." Alex says. "But I will if you don't do exactly as I say." Connor nods, and releases him. Alex walks over to where Amy is standing now. "She'll do whatever I tell her now, without a single thought. It's kind of amusing. Watch. Amy, electrocute your brother, but don't kill him." She points her hand at Connor.
"Amy, don't!" I yell, but she doesn't listen. Electricity shoots from her hand and hits Connor right in the chest. He screams and falls to his hands and knees. He stays there for a moment, trying to catch his breath. Then, unsteadily, he gets up, grimacing. He glares at Alex with hate in his eyes.
"See!" Alex says, laughing. "It's great!" I want to walk up to him and snap his neck at the moment. I would, too, if he didn't have the ability to make Amy shoot herself. Suddenly, the gun comes flying from Amy's hand and into Connor's. Now that he can't hurt Amy, I tackle Alex to the ground, punching him repeatedly. As soon as I see that he's unconscious, I turn toward Amy again. Connor is standing in front of her, begging her to come back. He's shaking her shoulders The gun is discarded where Connor had been standing before.
"Amy, please." he pleads with her. "You can't do this to us." I stand in front of her as well, and gently take her face in my hands.
"Amy, I know you're in there." I tell her. "I also know that it's hard, but you have to come back." I take a deep breath, trying to keep my voice steady. "I know who you are, and this isn't it. You're the girl who didn't go bowling until she was over twenty years old, but is strangely good at it. You hate your job at the diner. You're favorite pie flavor is cherry. You love watching Grey's Anatomy with Lexi." I start to see conflict in her eyes, and I know I'm getting somewhere, so I continue. "You make me watch Disney movies with you and your favorite one is Beauty and the Beast." Her eyes flicker quickly to light blue, but then back to electric blue. "You're one of the most stubborn people I've ever known, but you're also one of the strongest. You've gone through more in your life than anybody deserves, especially you. You would do anything to protect your friends. You're the girl that I fell in love with." Her eyes finally return to their normal color.
"Emmett?" she whispers, looking confused. "Connor?"
"Hey, you." I say, smiling. I look at Connor, and he's smiling at you. I look back at Amy, but she's looking behind me in horror.
"Look out!" she exclaims. I spin around and see Alex aiming a gun at us, but before he can shoot, electricity hits him right in the chest. He falls to the floor, dead. I turn back to Amy in shock. She's looking at her hand in horror, but also looks really pale. She sways, and almost falls, but I catch her.
"Amy?!" I say, panicked.
"I don't feel good." she whispers weakly, and coughs.
"Just hold on." Connor says, frantically. Her breathing becomes shallow and my eyes widen. She looks terrified.
"What's happening to me?" she croaks.
"It's gonna be okay." I try to reassure her. "You're okay. Just hold on."
Instead, her eyes close and she passes out.
