I wake up the next morning, alone in the bed. At first, I'm scared that I had somehow imagined rescuing Emmett last night and that he's still being held by Alex somewhere. I look around the room, panicked, and finally see a note on the table by the bed.
Amy-
I didn't want to wake you up, but I'm going to get breakfast for us. I'll be back soon. Love you.
-Emmett
I smile, knowing that he hasn't disappeared again. I walk out of the room right as he's coming through the door of the apartment. He's carrying a paper bag and two cups of coffee.
"Morning." he says, smiling. He looks ten times better than he did last night, and I'm relieved. But he should still be getting some rest.
"Didn't Lexi say to take it easy?" I ask him. He sets the bag and coffees on the table and kisses me.
"I was just getting breakfast Amy." he says, laughing and putting his hands on my waist. "I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get killed on the way to the coffee shop."
"You never know." I reply. I look in the paper and and see that he's gotten two chocolate chip muffins. I take a bite out of one of them. It's still warm.
"Aren't I the one who is supposed to worry too much?" he asks, smirking. I laugh.
"Yeah, well, then you got yourself kidnapped." He nods.
"Touche'." After Emmett and I eat breakfast, we decide to watch some TV. Soon, my phone goes off. I look at it, thinking that it's Lexi wondering when I'll be home. I'm wrong.
"Apparently Connor needs to talk to us about something. He says that he's coming over." He sighs and looks up at the ceiling.
"One of these says we'll get a day of peace."
"Well, this wasn't exactly peaceful before, either." I admit. "I do have an evil ex-boyfriend out there, you know." He laughs.
"True." he replies. There's a knock on the door of the apartment, and Emmett gets up and opens it. Connor walks in.
"Is everything okay?" I ask, concerned. If he came here so soon, whatever he has to say is probably important.
"I think I know what Alex is planning." he answers and I look at him in surprise. "You know the research lab that's downtown?" I nod my head, eager for him to continue. "I think the same guys who took Emmett stole some chemical from there. The scientists there said something about guys with superhuman strength."
"What did they steal?" Emmett asks.
"It's a chemical needed to make the serum that controlled you, Emmett." My eyes widen, and all I can think of is Emmett stabbing me, no emotion on his face. Emmett grabs my hand and squeezes it reassuringly.
"How do you know?" Emmett asks, being the strong one right now.
"Before we destroyed the lab before, I put some of the data on a flash drive." I take a deep breath.
"So what do we do about it then?" I ask. I can't let my emotions get the best of me now. Emmett is looking at me, concerned about my emotionless tone.
"Definitely not what we did last time." Emmett says, and I don't have it in me to reply with some sarcastic remark about how obvious that is.
"Do you think we can just destroy this lab like last time?" Connor asks.
