Sam’s POV:
After a mediocre fight with Tony about whether or not that was an appropriate phone call to be making at the hour and given the circumstances, I went to bed.
I woke up feeling better than when I went to sleep, if that was any consolation. Caspar told me I could go home today, back to London. I was nervous and excited all at once. I didn’t know how any of my friends would feel if they knew the truth and I didn’t feel comfortable lying to them.
“Don’t worry about it!” Caspar says, sliding his arm around my shoulder and kissing my cheek as we lay on the bed. “I’ve got it all figured out. I’ll tell you on the plane”
That was another thing. “Where are we anyways?” I asked him
He grinned at me with a glint of deviousness in his eye. “Boston, baby.”
I stop. “You’re kidding!” I say, leaping up to go look out the window. There, I see it now, the Zakim Bridge off to my right. This was my home town. Everything felt right again. A genuine smile reaches my face and I actually start laughing.
“How did I not see this before?” I ask myself. Caspar comes up next to me and kisses my temple, hugging me close as we stand and watch the busy city that I love more than London.
After a moment of watching my hometown, Caspar breaks his hug and informs me that we’re getting on a plane in a few hours to return to London.
“You’re coming with me?” I ask him, surprised. Shouldn’t he be in hiding or something?
“Yes!” he says with grin. I think he was happy to see London again. It sounded like he hadn’t been there in ages. “I’m going to be staying with you!”
My excitement immediately turns into regret. “Oh.” I say, unable to keep the disappointment off my face.
“Is something wrong?” he asks sincerely.
“Um, just one thing…See I kind of sold my place” Caspar looks shocked. “And I’ve been living with Dan and Phil for the past few years. “ I cringe at his reaction.
“Why?” he asks simply.
“I…I got lonely” I say and turn back to the window.
“Well” he starts. “I guess we can find a new place to stay until the whole Vito situation is contained”
“Why can’t I stay with Dan anymore?” I ask, genuinely disappointed. It wasn’t his place to tell me who I could and couldn’t live with anyways.
He starts to laugh. “You don’t expect me to let you out of my sight after how easily Vito was able to take you do you?”
I shrug. I guess I had been a little delusional thinking that everything could go back to the way my life was before Vito had happened. “Fine” I sigh and turn to get ready to leave.
“Are you mad at me?” he asks me before I close the bathroom door.
I stop and open the door, leaning against the frame. Caspar’s eyes bore into mine. He would know if I was lying to him.
“I just want things to go back to the way they were…before I was taken…before you killed yourself…”I bite my lip and he scratched the back of his neck. “Look, I know where you’re coming from, I just…You know I hate I when people tell me what to do”
I begin to rap my fingers on the door thinking of how to explain it.
“You don’t want me to babysit you, basically” Caspar says, reading my mind.
