My body forgot how to move, as I stood there frozen in this shocking moment. This boy, this boy that I had loved and who had apparently faked being dead for two years, was standing here before me like nothing had ever happened. And I could barely react.
Caspar just stood there, unsure of what to do. The tears were relentless, flowing in a continuous stream down my cheeks.
I rush over to him and he opens his arms. I fling my arms around his neck, burying my head in his neck, muffling my sobs. His arms squeeze me closer to his warm body. I inhaled his presence. I felt as though he was everything; I wouldn’t need food or water as long as I was with Caspar.
“Shh…”He whispered into my hair.
“I missed you so much, Caspar” I say between sobs. “Why…just tell me why…”
I hear him sigh as he pulls me away. Our bodies remained together, the only distance between us being our faces, our foreheads connected and our noses touching. His crystal blue eyes looked longingly into mine. I had to take deep breathes to calm my pounding heart.
“It’s…it’s a long story” he says. I nod and wipe away tears clinging to my bottom lashes. He takes my hands and leads me to the edge of the bed. I intertwined my fingers with his and wait for an explanation to be presented. He took a deep breathe, as if preparing himself for the news he was about to tell.
“It’s a bit complicated” he tells me. I nod again, unable to find the words. I felt a sudden rush of love for this boy.
“I’m just so...so happy you’re alive!” I burst out and hug his neck again. My sobbing shook my body as Caspar wrapped his arms around my body, pulling me closer than before. I never wanted to let him go. Never.
He had to pry me off of him and look me in the eye. “Please, just listen for now.” He says. I catch him glimpsing at my lips every now and then. “I just need to get this out”
I nod reluctantly and wait for him to speak. He averts his eyes from my face and looks like he is in deep thought for a moment, probably trying to formulate his words in his head. Caspar finally seems satisfied with his thoughts and turns back to me. It was killing me inside to hear what he was going to tell me. I hated that he was taking so long to get it out, but if it was so serious that he would fake death for it, I can only imagine such a secret would be hard to relay.
“Get comfortable” he says blankly. Not expecting those words to come out of his mouth I give him a look of confusion. “Please. It’s quite the story I promise” he says with a look, begging me to trust him.
I give in and crawl onto the bed. He joins me and we sit across from each other, holding hands with our legs crossed. In a normal situation, I would have dreamed of this. Caspar alive and holding my hand. But now, I was anxious to hear the story behind the scheme.
He looks as though he’s having a hard time trying to tell me everything. I want to hear him talk again. I want to have him trust me with this crucial information. I take his face in my shaky hands and bring his eyes up to look at mine.
“You can tell me Casp” I whisper. Those words cause a reaction in his eyes. The bright, crystal blue that was so innocent before darken and become hard. After a deep breathe he speaks.
“I…I am not who you think I am, Sam.” He says, watching my face for a reaction. Having already figured this out for myself, I keep my straight face and wait. He thinks again.
“I am…I guess I am what you would call…” he pauses and stares into my eyes as he says the next word. “A prince”
My mind stops for a minute, trying to comprehend the word.
