Chapter 11
Kylie's POV
It was such a relief to get out of Mandarin for lunch. With all those girls' jealous stares, Trish's constant badgering, and Kevin's smoldering eyes, I had more than I could possibly handle. But I didn't exactly mind Kevin's eyes. They were so gorgeous...a girl could get lost in them.
Ahem. What am I thinking? "His eyes..." Why can't that voice in my head shut up?
"'cause you know I'm right. His eyes are quite stunning. Not as much as the rest of him though." Not going to think of him that way. That would just put me off my lunch.
"As if! A yummy looking guy like him would only make lunch more appealing!" Darn that voice.
"Kylieeeeeeeee", Trish interrupted my internal conversation. "I'm not letting you off the hook! You better tell me what's with you and the hot new guy!"
"What are you talking about? There's nothing happening...I bet he's just teasing me." I bit my lip as I reached to get the salad. He probably was just doing that but he acted way over the top for that to be true.
"Uh-huh. And unicorns exist! That guy- how do you say love in Mandarin again? Oh, yeah. Ai. He aiiiiiiiiis you!" She replied, giggling.
"So funny. Is that the only Mandarin word you know? Ai?" I groaned. I seriously didn't want to be reminded about what just happened in Mandarin.
"No! But it's the most important word ever. And I'm going to tell Brandon that soon...hopefully." She sighed.
"Are you serious?" I was just a little surprised. They had been dating for 6 months and I knew they were both crazy about each other. "That's great!"
"I'm just so nervous! What if he doesn't say it back?" Trish seemed a little worried. "Then he's an idiot!" I was about to go on when I felt someone tap my shoulder. By the sparks I felt, I was sure I knew who it was...
"You wouldn't be talking about me by any chance, would you?" Kevin said, smiling. He looked so like a model, leaning against the counter even if he was carrying a lunch tray overflowing with food. How can one hot guy like him eat so much and still look as lean and sexy as that? Sigh.
"So..." he looked at me, a little strangely. So was Trish. Apparently I was taking too long to answer....Oops.
I laughed awkwardly. "Of course not. You are far from being an idiot...Anyone who gets the teacher to read a note aloud is definitely not an idiot. I admire whomever can execute such a flawless plan." I managed finished my response a bit sarcastically. I was still a bit upset about the matter. Everyone's probably talking about me now. Did I mention how much I hate attention?
"Why, thank you. I'm glad to know you think so highly of me." He said, smiling. Did he not get my sarcasm or was he pretending not to notice it? He continued on. "Since you have such a high opinion of me, may I have this lunch with you?"
Trish squealed in delight. I just stared at him. Was he for real? That sounded so old-fashioned and formal something out of fairytales. May have this dance would be more appropriate! That was extremely corny and cheesy but it was endearing how persistent he was in a way. But I wasn't quite sure if I really wanted to spend lunch with him. If I did that, I'm sure the gossip would get even more intense. Hmmm...
I bit my lip. He looked at me expectantly, just like an adorable puppy. Who could resist a face like that?
"Well..." I began my answer. "I..."
Kevin's POV
I knew I looked quite nonchalant and confident when I asked her to spend lunch with me. It was all part of my persona. Alpha wolves always have more confidence and charisma. You have to if you are an alpha. After all, you need to lead the pack and make important decisions. Who would listen to some wolf who sounds unsure of himself?
But I was never so nervous in my entire life. I rarely had to ask a girl out. They were always the ones who initiated everything. And when I take the initiative, I never cared for the girl's answer. 'cause if she said no, which was never the case, there were lots of girls throwing themselves at me.
This time it was different. This was my mate we were talking about. I didn't have a good feeling about asking her to eat lunch with me. From what I could tell, she was a lot more reserved than other girls I knew. You could tell that from her almost constant blushing! She probably didn't like the attention that much. Unfortunately she would have to get to it. Alpha females play big roles in the pack. Yet Kylie can be feisty. My wolf snorted. "Heck yeah. Our mate wouldn't be some boring, submissive female." She wasn't responding as favorably to my advances as I hoped. And that was definitely sarcasm in her answer earlier...
Time for a new approach. I tried the puppy dog look. Who could ever refuse that? The only female immune to it was my mother. And she only resisted it a few times.
I saw my mate hesitate, biting her lip. Aww...she was so cute!
"Well..." She faltered. 'I think I would have to...decline?" What? I blinked at her. Was I hearing things?
She went on. "Umm...it's not that I don't want to. I mean, I just..." She was blushing and looking so flustered that I took pity on her.
"Sweetheart, you may have just broken my heart." I said, putting my hands over my heart. "I hope you have an enjoyable lunch thinking about what you just did." I smirked.
My wolf growled. He was disappointed. "Fail. Let me try..." Uh-huh. If he tried, she would be scared out of her mind!
I left her looking surprised and headed off to Mark's table. It was hard not to look back but I wasn't going to look so whipped this soon.
All the popular kids were there. And so were a lot of girls...Hmm.
Mark smirked as he saw me approaching. "Finally deciding to join us? You're not on the top of your game, man."
I snorted. "You guys are lucky I decided to come to your table." "Now who's acting all high and mighty here?" He scoffed. I smiled, "Just kidding." Before I could say anything else, the girls swarmed over me- winking suggestively and cooing. One of them even started trying to feed me. Was I a baby or something? I could feed myself. I wrinkled my nose in disgust.
My wolf was disgusted with them too. Before we would've welcomed their attention happily but now that we've found our mate, all those girls could be guys for all we cared...
But I could feel something searing my back. I smiled. My mate was staring at me. I guess it couldn't hurt to endure all this to make her just a little jealous. She had to know what she was missing out here. As much as I was in love with her, I wasn't going to seem that whipped here. Especially if she didn't return my feelings My wolf whimpered at the thought of that..
That couldn't happen right?
I would make sure it didn't.
