Weeks passed by with our usual routine, and I hate to admit it, but it was actually kind of boring. Though today, my dad called and invited me to lunch at their house. Drake and I were planning to tell them today about our relationship, but I was still really worried. We were headed to my old house now, and I tried my hardest to be brave as we pulled up. They'll accept it, I just know it. My parents were very understanding people. We walked up to the house to be greeted by my dad this time. He smiled brightly at me. "Charlie! I've missed ya so much." His cheerful irish accent rang. "Missed you too, dad." He gave me a huge hug, then shook Drake's hand. As I entered the house, the smell of food instantly hit me. My stomach growled right before my mom walked around the corner. "Honey, it's good to see you. I'm just finishing up in the kitchen, why don't you come give me a hand?" She, too, embraced me in a hug before leading me to the kitchen. "How is everything here?" I was getting a pie out of the oven while we made small talk. "Good, just as busy as ever. This is the first time in a week that your dad has been home, his schedule has been so hectic. How are you doing? Met anyone lately?" I smiled. Typical mom question. "I'm good. Actually, I have. I'll tell you about him later." She smiled brilliantly, telling me that she couldn't wait. We set the table, and called the boys in to eat. Drake snagged the seat beside me, and put his hand on my thigh under the table. Everyone began putting food on their plates, steak, corn, and mashed potatoes. "So, Charlie, who is the boy you said you met?" My dad perked up at this, immediately putting his 'protective' face on. I guess now is a good time, here goes nothing. "Well, about that. You see, I met him a while ago, and we fell in love. He's very sweet to me, and treats me like a real gentleman should...that's why I'm asking you not to freak out until you take it into consideration." The both furrowed their eyebrows, while I took a deep breath. "I'd like you to meet my boyfriend, Drake." Both parents looked from me to Drake, then back. No one said a word, and the only thing that could be heard was my heartbeat. "Well," My mom started. "If you really feel strongly about this, then I'll be more than happy to accept it." She smiled at both of us, while we smiled back then turned to my dad. "I don't like it." He said, shaking his head with a sigh. My stomach dropped, the feeling of dread washing over me. Drake immediately spoke up, not once moving his hand. "Sir, I'm in love with your daughter. We've had our highs and lows, but we always come through. Will all do respect, I'm really not sure I can leave her alone even if you want me to. We've grown together as a couple over the past few weeks, and I'm certain that we're meant to be together. It would mean a lot if you would accept our relationship." My dad gave him a blank stare for a little longer than necessary, probably trying to scare him. "I can see how much this means to both of you..." He trailed off. "So I'll allow it. You make my daughter happy, and that's all I've ever wanted for her." I went to go hug both of my parents while Drake thanked them continuously. We spent the rest of our meal talking about the relationship, how long we'd been together, how he asked me to be his girlfriend, and all of that stuff. I was honestly so happy, all I ever wanted was my parents acceptance. We celebrated with cherry pie afterwards, and stayed until about 9:00 that night. When it was finally time to leave, both my mom and dad hugged us and waved as we drove off. "That went so much better than expected." I smiled, and held Drake's hand. "I guess we're just meant to be."
