I was sitting on my couch, and heard a knock at the front door. I slowly sat up, holding my throbbing side. “Hello?” A figure stood at the door, and a deep voice came with it. “Hey...” I stared at the handsome boy, probably about 18, with green eyes, and brown hair. I think I recognized him from school. “Umm, w-why are you here?” I stuttered as I sunk back into the couch. “Your dad sent me here for security reasons.” “SECURITY?!” He nodded. “Why the heck do I need security?!” “Somethings have just come up, but I can assure you, there is nothing to worry about.” I huffed, while rolling my eyes. “Great. I don’t need someone to guard my house! I’m perfectly fine here by myself.” “Well, actually I’m your near guard, which is basically a body guard. The far guard for the house is coming tomorrow.” I can’t believe my dad is doing this to me. There wasn’t any need for it. “Well then, good luck with whatever you do.” I said relaxing a little bit more. He smiled. “I can tell I’m going to need it.” I crossed my arms, and leaned back into the couch again. He sat his stuff down, and walked over to me, as he stuck his hand out for me to shake. “I‘m Drake.” I just looked at his hand. “Charlie.” I hated to touch people, it made me feel horrible, like I was going to throw up. He pulled his hand away knowingly, and picked his stuff back up. “There’s an extra room down that hall.” “Thanks.” He sent me a little wink, and I blushed profoundly. He chuckled, I guess at the fact that I was blushing, which made me blush even harder. I was probably about as red as an apple now, so I looked at the ground. He laughed once more, and I watched as he walked down the hall. Cocky much? Once he was gone, I ran a finger over my side, and winced from the pain. I slowly lifted my shirt up, to reveal the bruise on my ribcage, along with the swelling. “What happened?” I stood up hastily when he came up behind me, without me noticing. “Oh, nothing.” I turned my attention back to the t.v. but he grabbed my wrist. I gasped, and put my other hand up in defense. I was so used to Matt grabbing me, so I expected him to hit me. “Please d-don’t hurt me.” I whispered, while a stream of hot tears ran down my cheek. He immediately dropped my hand, and his eyes looked like they were searching mine for something. “Who did that to you?” He gestured to my side. “Umm, I just fell.” “Look, I know you don’t want to tell me, but it’s my job as security to know these things.” I rolled my eyes, and stood back up, walking in the opposite direction. He followed me, but stayed quiet. By now it was dark, so I could barely see the tree line outside. “So, you’re like my body guard, permanently?” He nodded. Well, this is going to be interesting. “Ok, and are you planning to tell me why he sent you here or...?” “Can’t. He specifically told me not to.” I nodded, and looked at the clock. It was about 11:00, and I usually went to bed around 12:00 but I didn’t want to deal with this dude tonight. “Well, I’m going to go to bed. Night.” Dismissing myself from our little get together, I walked over to my radio in my room, and turned on some music before picking out my outfit for tomorrow. Tank top with the Batman logo, some shorts, and yellow high tops. I slipped into some pajama shorts, and a baggy t-shirt before getting into my king size bed, and drifting off to sleep.
*Next morning*
I jumped out of bed, and turned on the warm water in the shower. While I was waiting for the water to get hot, I slid my shirt off over my head. My eyes glanced over my stomach...I had lost a lot of weight over the school year, but not enough. I was still too big to be considered ‘skinny’ by any means. I pulled my eyes away from my oversized stomach, and stepped under the water, letting it run down my body. I scrubbed my hair with vanilla scented shampoo. After rinsing my hair several times, I reluctantly got out of the warm shower, and wrapped a towel around my body. Today was the last day of school before summer, and I was 20 minutes behind schedule. I brushed my teeth, threw my clothes on, and put my wet hair into a ponytail before running down the hall to eat breakfast. I guess Drake was still asleep, but I wasn’t planning on waking him up to tell him where I was going. I wrote him a small letter before I grabbed my lunch and a banana as I was walking outside. I put my earbuds in, and tried to ignore the guys walking behind me. Their names were Clark, and Drew. They just happened to hate me for no apparent reason. “Yo, blondie!” I pretended like I didn’t hear them, so Drew came over and poked my on the shoulder. “What?” “Got a little attitude today, don’t we?” He smirked, as I rolled my eyes and pulled my iPod out to occupy myself. He grabbed it out of my hands, and began scrolling through my songs as he put the earbuds in. “Give it back.” “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you.” He gestured to the earbuds. I yanked the earbuds out, and took a step closer. “I said, give it back.” He started laughing, and turned to look at Clark. “Can you believe her?” Clark joined in on the laughter, and I put both of my hands on Drew’s shoulders. I knee’d him where the sun don’t shine, and grabbed my iPod while he doubled over in pain. “Idiot!” I screamed as Clark ran towards me. I decided to run, since Clark and Drew could easily beat me up and I was a pretty fast runner. I started sprinting in the other direction, towards the school, with dumb and dumber following me. School was only about a 15 minute walk, so about 7 minute run. I kept looking back to see if they were following, and they were every time. I was honestly scared, because these dudes were genuinely scary. Much bigger and stronger than Matt, and he was like an innocent little puppy compared to them. They were gaining on me, so I ran even faster. I ran behind the school, and looked back to see that they were gone. I slowed down, and looked behind me in disbelief. I was just about to go in the other direction, when someone slammed me into the ground. “Think you can out run me?” It was Clark. He was laying completely on top of me, pinning me to the ground. I squirmed at the feeling of his body making full contact with mine. I’m sure drew was standing somewhere around there too, but I couldn’t even lift my head. “Please don’t hurt me.” I cried, as he stood up. “Oh, you mean like when you knee’d me?” I instantly regretted doing it, but I had to admit that it felt awesome to let my anger out. “I’m sorry.” “You’re going to pay for that.” My ribcage was sore, but the fact that Clark slammed me into the ground earlier didn’t help. I was taking short breaths, and clutching my side. He grabbed my shoulders, and slammed me against the brick wall. I flinched from his touch, because he was gripping my arm so firmly. He kicked me really hard in the knee, bending my leg backwards. I screamed out in pain, and he covered my mouth. “Shut up! Clark, come help me.” Was this some sick game to him? He was grinning from ear to ear. I think he really liked seeing other people in pain. I opened my eyes when Clark didn’t answer, just in time to see Drake punch the crap out of Drew. Drew dropped to the floor, and I was sliding down the wall. I didn’t have the strength to stand. Drake came over, and caught me before I fell, and picked me up bridal style. I started flailing my arms when he held me, but he was too strong and I could barely breathe. “I’m going to take you to the hospital.” I shook my head slightly, and he gave me a confused look. “I have to.” I’ve had a fear of hospitals ever since I was little. Don’t ask me why, because I have yet to find that out. “This is too serious for me to take care of. You could have broken ribs or a broken leg.” He placed me in the passenger side of his Camero, before running around to the drivers side. I was taking shallow breaths the whole way there, hoping I wouldn’t die on the way. A few minutes later, the car stopped and Drake got out and ran with me in his arms to the entrance. I swear he had a tear in the corner of his eye, but that was probably just me imagining it. “She’s having trouble breathing.” The lady at the front desk looked up, looked at my tear stained face, then hastily searched for a walkie talkie. “Can we get a stretcher to the front?” Drake softly laid me down in the empty waiting room since I couldn’t exactly stand. “Just sign these papers here and we’ll get her to the back.” A few seconds later, three nurses burst through the door with a big stretcher rolling beside them. Drake ran over to me as they were lifting me onto the stretcher, and exchanged hushed words with the male nurse. Soon enough, they wheeled me back into a room. Somehow I already had an oxygen mask on, but I did’t even remember them putting it on. Breathing was already getting easier, and the pain was starting to slightly go away as well. Probably because I had an i.v. in my arm. Soon after they took me through some swinging doors, my eyes got heavy and I drifted off into a deep sleep.
