I hugged him, and ran down the stairs. I wasn’t as worried about him, because he could easily fend for himself. I swung the back door open, and nearly ran into a huge guy. “What are you doing?” I tried to think of something to say, but nothing came to mind, so I sprinted to the front door, and ran outside as fast as I possibly could. The guy wasn’t far behind me, and I could tell he was gaining. Finally after about five minutes of running around the yard, he caught me, and we both fumbled to the ground. “Let go!” He had an arm draped over my back so I couldn’t get away, and I was doing all I could to try and get away. “I can’t.” “Please! Just let me go!” I looked at him for the first time, and my breath caught in my throat. “Jackson?” “Oh, God.” Let me just catch you up really quick. Jackson was my best friend when I was younger, and one day he told me that he didn’t want to be my friend anymore. I was crushed, but forced myself to forget about him. “What are y-” He cut me off when he put his hand over my mouth. “Let’s go somewhere else where no one can see us.” I nodded, but I was also a little scared too. He led me behind the house to some trees, and unclamped his hand from my mouth. “Well, before you say anything, I’m sorry.” I nodded. “Why did you tell me that? You didn’t want to be my friend?” “I had to come here. I ran away from home, my father started abusing me. I came to my cousins house, and he told me he would let me in on something if I swore not to tell anyone.” Well, I guess it’s better for him to tell me he didn’t want to be friends, than to just leave without anything. “Which one is your cousin?” “The one with black hair.” I guess he’s the one who kidnapped me. “What did he let you in on?” “He told me about his whole ‘kidnapping business’ and how he was out to get you.” I gestured for him to go on, because I wanted to know what he was going to do with me. “He works for Russell.” I almost went into shock right there. Russell knew where I was. “That’s great...will you let me go, please? I don’t want to die.” He sighed, and scratched his head. “Fine, but y-” “Letting her go, Jack? I trusted you.” His cousin walked around the tree, and smirked at me. “Run.” I looked at Jackson, and smiled gratefully before turning around and running, yet again. Sadly, there was another large man blocking me. “Are you kidding me right now?!” I screamed at the guy in front of me. He looked a little shocked, but soon put his ‘fearless’ face back on. Jackson’s cousin grabbed me around the waist, and pulled me close to him. I flailed my arms attempting to be free, but it didn’t work. “Calm down, you’re safe here.” “Says the man who kidnapped me.” He laughed, and led me towards the house. “Where’s Drake?” “Oh, the guy that knocked my crew out? Don’t worry, he’s fine...for now.” I rolled my eyes, and continued walking. “I can walk myself, you know. You don’t have to lead me around.” He laughed, and earned an evil glare from me. “Why should I trust you? After all, you did try to sneak away.” I didn’t have a comeback for that, so I just smiled innocently, and continued trying to pull my arm free. “At least don’t make me go back into that dark little room.” “Oh, you’re not. You’re coming to my room.” I laughed nervously, although there was nothing funny about this situation. “Never mind, I’ll just go to the other room.” I tried to pull away and go up the stairs, but of course he stopped me. “No, you do as I say.” I nodded, and sent Jackson a ‘help me’ look before walking to his room with him. “I’ll be back in a mnute.” He pushed me into his room, and walked back out before shutting the door. I sighed, and sat at the end of his bed. I heard someone running down the hall, and then the door flew open. Before I could say anything, Drake threw a paperweight at the window, grabbed me around the waist, and jumped out. He quickly stood up, and helped me up before taking my hand and pulling me behind him. “Are you crazy?!” He smirked. “Maybe a little.” I rolled my eyes, and continued to run as fast as my legs would let me. “Where are we even going?!” We were currently in the middle of...nowhere. “Just keep running. There’s a highway about 1/4 of a mile from here.” As much as I hated running, I kept going...and going...and going. That is, until I twisted my ankle. “Charlie! Are you ok? Can you walk?” I nodded. “Yeah, I might be a little slow b-” “We don’t have time for slow.” Drake said, as he swooped me up, and continued running with me. Finally, we got to a hotel where Drake said we’d be safe for now. “Hi, I’d like to book a room for one night.” The middle aged woman smiled, and started typing on her computer. “Alright, we have an opening on the fourteenth floor, will that be ok?” He nodded, and threw a wad of money on the counter before grabbing the key and walking towards the elevator. “Sir!” We ignored the lady, and got onto the elevator. “Ok, when we get to the room, I need to make a few calls. Especially your dad. Man he’s gonna kill m-” I placed my lips on his to shut him up, which seemed to be working quite well. I pulled away to look at his jaw. “Are you ok?” He nodded. “Please tell me he didn’t do anything to you.” I shook my head, obviously I got the better side of that guy. The elevator dinged, and we walked out into the hall. Standing on the other side, were three girls. They all eyed Drake up and down before turning to me. I gave them a little ‘he’s mine’ glare, and they soon got the message. We continued down the hall, and found our room, 1406. As soon as we were inside, we both fell onto the bed face first with an ‘oompf’. “Ah ee to o call Ryn an Piece now.” I laughed, and picked my head up. “What?” He picked his head up, then plopped it back down on it’s side. “I said, I need to go call Ryan and Pierce now. Why don’t you call your dad?” I sighed, and handed him his cell phone that had fallen out of his pocket when we laid down. While he called the other two, I dialed my dad’s number using the phone sitting on the side table. He answered after the fourth ring, but something sounded off in his voice. “Dad, is everything ok?” “Let me talk to Mr. Smith.” I handed the phone to Drake, and shrugged. “Hello?” His face dropped, but he quickly tried to cover it up. I raised my eyebrows at him, but he pretended like he didn’t see me. “Ummm, ok...” He stood up, and held up a finger to me before walking into the hall. If he thought I wasn’t going to follow him, he was insane. I held my ear up to the door, and listened very carefully. I could make out them saying something about someone being at mom and dad’s house, and I heard my grandpa’s name. I tried to press my ear up against the door even more, but I couldn’t hear much more. He told my dad where we were, and then hung up. I backed away from the door, and ran into the little mini kitchen. He walked in, and put on a fake smile. “What did he want? He sounded really worried on the phone.” He shrugged. “Oh, just wanted to make sure you were alright.” I rolled my eyes, and walked over to him. “Are you sure there wasn’t something else?” “What do you know?” I shrugged. “Oh, I heard the whole conversation.” Ok, that was a tiny lie. I didn’t hear the whole thing. “Tell me what we were talking about then.” “Russell, and uh...well, I might not know the entire conversation, but you can fill me in.” He shook his head, and walked over to the pantry to find food. “You know I can’t tell you. I’m sorry, Charlie. I’m still your bodyguard, even though I’m your boyfriend too.” I nodded, and sighed dramatically. He walked over to me after finding some chips, and kissed me on the forehead. I still get butterflies in my stomach when he does that. “Oh, crap! Violet! She’s probably worried sick!” I quickly called her, and she answered with her usual chirpy tone. “Hello?” I could hear laughter in the background, as well as music. “Hey Vi, it’s Charlie.” she didn’t say anything after that, but I could still hear the noise so I knew she hadn’t hung up. “Are you mad at me?” I asked incredulously. “A little, I mean, next time you want to have a little ‘alone’ time with that Pierce guy, just tell me! We thought you could’ve gotten kidnapped or something!” I looked down at the phone, even though she couldn’t see me through it. “Don’t worry though, I wont tell anyone you’re dating him. He told me you’d get in trouble.” I paused. Pierce? Out of all people? “Wait, he told you?” Suddenly, a male voice appeared on the phone. “Charlie! How are you doing?” I could hear the noise fading slightly. “I’ve been better. What is Violet talking about?” I heard a door slam before there was complete silence. “Look, none of us can tell her you were kidnapped. She’s a little talkative, and I have a feeling it’ll slip.” It made sense, but what if she told my dad I was dating Pierce? “Won’t my dad find out about your other plan?” More like, ‘you know she’s going to tell everyone she knows, then it’s going to get back to my dad.’ “Nope, I got permission from him to do it.” “Uh, alright. Well Drake wants to talk to you.” I handed the phone off, and proceeded to the couch. We didn’t have anything to pack up, so after he was done with the call, we went down to the lobby to wait for Pierce who was picking us up. A few minutes later, he walked through the door looking guilty. I noticed that he and Drake weren’t talking unless they had to, which was really unusual for them. I tried to make small talk with them, but it was just so awkward, considering I was the only one talking. “Ok, I don’t know whats going on between you and Pierce, but you guys need to talk.” He sighed. “Are you kidding me? If it weren’t for him we wouldn’t have been kidnapped! It’s all his fault we were in this mess. He wasn’t doing his job, s-” “Don’t blame him! It wasn’t really his fault, that creep could’ve come out of nowhere.” He looked at me like I grew another head. “Are you really sticking up for him right now?” I shrugged. “I just don’t think it’s right for you to be mad at him, it’s not like he told the guy to kidnap me.” “Well, if you’re going to be on his side, why don’t you just let Pierce be your boyfriend? Obviously you like him more than me.” I stood there, completely shocked, with my mouth hanging wide open. Drake looked like he was about to say something, but stomped off to my room, and slammed the door as hard as I could. I can’t believe he would even say that! Does he not know how much trust I had put in him? He’s the only boy I even let touch me. It looks like I was right about him all along. He is like all of the others...I’m pretty sure he just gave up on me.
