The next few days, we just kind of hung out and I took him around some cool shops downtown.  We were currently at home, watching t.v. and sitting on the couch.  “I’m bored.”  I said for the thousandth time.  “I know.”  He replied, in a mocking tone.  I jumped up with a big smile on my face.  “You know what I want to do?”  “No, what?”  I grabbed his arm.  Let’s go to the park.”  He stood up.  “Lead the way.”  I drug him outside, and down our long street.  There was a neighborhood park way down the road, but I liked to walk.  Once we got close enough to see it, I picked up some speed.  I got on top of the monkey bars, and flipped upside down.  Drake smirked evilly, and started tickling me.  I was having so much fun with him, it was like everything just felt right.  “S-stop, Dra-ake!”  “Never.”  He pulled me off of the monkey bars, and held me.  I looked into those beautiful eyes of his, and I knew right then that I was in love with my new bodyguard.  Man, was I in deep trouble.  He carried me over to a little bench, and sat me beside him.  “You know, I can walk now.  I have a boot.”  Oh, did I forget to mention that?  I went to the doctor’s office for a checkup, and they said I could get a boot since it was healing so fast.  He shrugged.  “I know.”  We sat in silence for a while, and watched the ducks swim in the pond.  “Drake?”  “Hmm?”  I looked at the ground.  “Are you in love with that girl you told me about?”  He nodded, a smile etching it’s way onto his lips.  “Absolutely.”  He looked down at me, but I remained staring at the ground.  “What does it feel like?”  I looked back up, shyly.  “What does what feel like?”  I looked back away, contemplating on weather or not to carry on.  “To be in love, what does it feel like?”  He didn’t have a smirk on his face, or even a smile.  He was just staring contently into my eyes.  “Well, if you’re really in love, you just have this instant connection.”  “Did you both?”  He nodded.  “I believe so, yes.  Why are you asking me these questions?”  “Oh, no reason.”  He tilted my chin up towards him with a finger.  “Do you think you might be in love with someone?”  I nodded, frowning.  “What’s his name?”  Now what do I say?!  Just great, I’ve really screwed up this time.  “Uh, he...you don’t really know him.”  I stuttered out.  “I didn’t ask if I knew him, I asked what his name was.”  Suddenly, an idea popped into my head.  “I’ll tell you, if you tell me first.”  First grade-ish, I know.  But it’ll give me some time to stall.  “Why don’t I call her for you?”  I nodded, unsure if I really wanted to hear the voice of the girl on the other end.  He dialed the number, before putting it on speaker for me.  It rang once, then I felt my own phone vibrate.  I took it out, and it said, ‘Drake’ across the top.  Suddenly, realization hit me like a ton of bricks and I looked up at Drake.  He had a look of sheer terror and happiness written across his face.  “I’m her?”  I said, needing some confirmation.  He nodded with his hands shoved down in his pockets.  When my mind finally registered what was happening, I slammed myself into his embrace, and wrapped my arms around his neck.  “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to tell you.”  I smiled into his jacket, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.  I pulled away slightly to look at him.  “But, what would happen if anyone found out?”  His smile never faded.  “I’d be fired.”  I should’ve known better than to think this would work, I thought to myself.  “But I guess it’ll just have to be our little secret.”  He winked.  I smiled brightly, and hugged him tighter this time.  “Pinky promise you won’t tell anyone?”  Yeah, he definitely wasn’t like all of the other guys like I thought before.  I giggled.  “Pinky promise.”  We hooked pinkies, and smiled.  “We should probably get back home before someone sees us hugging and jumps to conclusions.”  I frowned.  It was times like these that I wish I could be normal.  “Yeah, you’re right, let’s go.”  We walked a little, and I started limping to keep weight off of my leg.  I didn’t want to make Drake carry me, so I just tried to keep going.  “Your leg hurting?”  I shook my head.  He gave me a ‘yeah right’ face, and crouched down in front of me.  “I don’t want you to carry me, thats a long way.”  “It’s fine, I’m a big boy.”  I laughed, but refused to get on.  My leg didn’t hurt that bad, but it was really sore.    “Fine, we’re just going to do this the hard way.”  He picked me up, and threw me over his shoulder, holding onto my hips so he didn’t hurt my leg.  “This is very unprofessional, Mr. Smith!” I said trying not to laugh.  “Oh, be grateful.  I just saved you from having to amputate your leg.”  I laughed, and slapped him on the back.  “Ouch!”  I continued to beat on his back until we got home, and he sat me down on the living room floor.  “My back is going to be bruised thanks to you, little girl.”  I smiled innocently, and laid back on the carpet.  “Do you want some food?”  I nodded, because I’m always hungry.  Dad says that runs in the family, but whatever.  I just know I love food.  “Pizza, Chinese, or we can try to find something here...”  He trailed off, looking in the cabinets for some food.  “Pizza sounds good.”  He went to go order, and it was here a few minutes later.  We ate and talked about random stuff that came up, then he told me to go relax while he cleaned up our mess.  I went over to the couch and turned the t.v. on.  It was on the world news, and across the bottom it had ‘Russell Molton; back again’ written across it.  “-and he strikes, yet again.  He’s going on a rampage to find this poor girl at all costs.  Word is that two guards were sent in search of the man, but are currently empty handed.  We’re here to keep you updated, live on channel 6.”   Suddenly, it all made sense.  Russell Horan, my mom’s dad, my grandfather, was after me...and I knew exactly why.  That’s why Drake was sent here.  I dropped the remote on the floor before breaking out in to a full sprint to Drake, boot and all.  I almost knocked him over with my force, if that tells you anything.  “Charlie, what is it?”  I continued to sob uncontrollably into his shirt while he rubbed circles on my back.  “H-he’s com-ming for me.”  He furrowed his eyebrows.  “Who is?”  I gripped him tighter before answering.  “Russell.”

He gripped my shoulders tightly, and tensed up.  “Charlie, I need you to tell me absolutely everything you know about Russell.”  I continued to sob, and barely noticed when Drake picked me up to my room.  I finally started to calm down when he pulled me onto his lap and stroked my hair.  “He’s c-coming for me, Dr-rake”  He sighed, obviously he knew that much.  “Do you know why?”  Should I tell him?  Of course, he’s the only one who can protect me.  “H-he killed someone in f-front of me.  Sh-shot him.  He’s alw-ways been crazy like that.  I just...can’t handle anything else, D-drake!”  Images flashed through my mind of the poor defenseless man laying on the ground with blood pouring out of his chest.  I fisted handfuls of Drake’s shirt, while sobbing hysterically.  He was so tense, and I felt bad for even telling him any of it.  But, I guess it had to be done eventually.  “We’re going to fix this, ok?  Everything is going to be alright.”  I let out another sob, and nodded.  After he finally managed to calm me down by rocking me gently in his arms, he began to question further.  “Can you tell me what happened?”  I shook my head vigorously, trying to erase the thought from my head.  “I...I think he wants to kill me because I know too much.”  I snuggled further into his warm chest.  “Tell me what you know.”  I sighed, holding back my tears.  “Ok, well...”

*Flashback*

“Can we please get some ice cream?”  It was the first time that mom had let me go anywhere with grandpa, and so far it was a pretty fun day.  “Alright, fine.  You go order, and I’ll wait here.”  I skipped up to the counter with money in hand, and exchanged it for two ice cream cones.  When I got back to his original spot, he was no longer there.  “Grandpa?”  I called out, in search of the old man.  I walked around a corner, and dropped the ice cream on the cold pavement.  “Ah, Charlie, come here.”  Said my grandfather, holding a gun to a man’s head.  “Don’t run, I’ll shoot him right before you.”  I swallowed hard, in fear that he would shoot me, and stood still.  “This man has been very naughty.  He took lots of money from me.”  I nodded, while thinking of an escape plan.  My eyes darted to the side to see another small alley, but he shifted slightly closer.  “Don’t even think about it.”  Before the last word came out of his mouth, I was already half way gone.  I heard a loud gunshot, and turned around to see the man laying in a bloody pool.  I screamed as Russell grabbed my arm and pulled me to his car.  “Tell anyone, and you’re dead.  Do you hear me?”

*End of flashback*

This is the first time I’d told the whole story to anyone, and it shocked me that I decided to share it with him.  “So, how did he find out that you told someone?”  I shrugged.  “That’s not important.”  He could tell that I wasn’t ready to say anything yet, so he left it alone.  “I’m sorry you had to go through that.  You really are a strong girl.”  I tried to muster up a smile, but it wasn’t the best ever.
