Firess's P.O.V

...

The wretched hands around my waist slowly let go, those hands of Gage's, feeling just like Austin's. My eyes stared out the window as chills began to form on my pale skin from the cold and white snow, shivers prickled down my spine. I pulled away from Gage's body, feeling the presence of his chest against my back disappear. I closed my eyes and shook my head as I turned to stare at him.

"What are you doing? What are we doing? What am I doing?" I asked quickly, in sharp words. "Get away from me." The horror and confusion on his face was something that made me cringe harder than when you hear nails on a chalkboard or a metal fork against a glass plate.

This apocalyptic world brainwashed me.

Do you even remember your rules?

My mind was just like one of the dead's.

Gone.

I took in a large breath before I let a screeching scream leave my lungs to alert the others. My skin covering in goosebumps from the echos of the asylum. My body was achy and I felt like I could hardly stand or breathe. I walked quickly back to the room I had once come from, my nose getting a whiff of the dirty and muggy air as I stood in the doorway, staring at many wide-eyed, sitting up bodies.

"Firess - Did you scream?" Allyson asked quickly, tilting her head as she spoke to me. The girl I had met before, Heidi, was staring at me tightly, her black hair as black as blindness. Gage's voice echoed down the hallway after me.

"We have to get to Florida!" He yelled to me from about 16 feet away. I moved my body to see him, my eyes staring straight into his.

"I'm not going to Florida. I'm not going to stay here, and I don't want any of you coming, because I'm going home.

...

"There's a giant hoard of stalkers coming right now and I don't know what to do and I'm scared out of my mind. And I don't want to be here anymore and my heart actually wants to pound right out of my chest right now and I have no idea what's going on right now and AGH!" I kicked the wall and grabbed the sides of my head, pacing back and forth.

I took a breath and closed my eyes.

"We can't wait for the hoard to pass-"

Aria stood to her feet and shook her head.

"You have to get to Florida, the cure is running through your veins like heroine."

My eyes moved to hers, and then to Allyson's, and then to Rainey's. All of them were filled with such pain and hurt like a puppy's whenever you take it's food away.

I looked to the ground and realized how ridiculous I was being. Aria was right.. I had the cure just at my fingertips. Coursing through my blue veins.

I heard footsteps from behind me, thinking it was Gage, but when Allyson's voice pierced the air with a squealing word, I knew it wasn't Gage.

"Cade?!!!!!!" Her voice was sharp, scared, excited.

Allyson had killed Cade, saying he was going to kill us. Or that's what Aria said.

···

My heartbeat was in my throat as I turned around.

Blue eyes staring back at me sharply. A blood stained, tattered shirt. Sharp jawline. Thick adam's apple. Long eyelashes that a girl would die for. A tall and buff frame. That was Cade.

My breath was shallow and short.

"Firess, Aria, Rainey, Wagner and Allyson." He whispered quietly, shaking his head.
