Skylar had no clue what to think as Alicia came back and sat down at the table. She pulled out an envelope and slid it over to Skylar. Skylar looked at Alicia in confusion.

"Your mother knew that you'd eventually have questions about some things so she prepared this box for you in case she wasn't here."

Skylar nodded taking the envelope from her then opened it slowly. Once opened she pulled out what looked like a letter followed by her birth certificate and two photos.

"I'm going to go finish getting ready," Alicia said standing up from her chair leaving Skylar alone.

Skylar laid the items out on the table glancing at the photos first. She recognized her mother immediately but the man standing next to her she had no clue about. She flipped the photo over and saw something written on the back in her mother's familiar handwriting.

'Dom and I prom night'.

Skylar's eyebrows shot upwards after reading the caption on the back of the photo.

"Who the hell?" she said to herself then quickly grabbed the letter to her left again seeing her mother's handwriting on the paper.

My dear Sky,

This letter is the hardest thing I have ever written in my life. I know that eventually, you are going to have questions about your father and why he has never been around; and while I hope that I will be able to tell you this in person I'm afraid that I may never get the chance to. Which is why I'm writing this letter to you now.

Your father doesn't know you exist. I was so upset when your grandparents kicked me out that I never bothered to tell him for fear that he'd reject me as well. I was foolish and wrong to assume this. That's why a few years after you were born I went to his house to tell him of you only to find out that he wasn't there. You see your father while being rough around the edges, always defended his family. Which would explain why I wasn't surprised to find out that he was in prison for nearly beating to death the person responsible for his father's death with a wrench.

He's not a bad man; intimidating yes but bad no. If you do decide to search for him the address is on the other side of the photo of just him. I hope you're not angry at me Sky, but if you are I'm sorry; I just hope that maybe by you finally finding out the truth about your father you can let go of some of the anger you have. I love you, sweetheart, forever.

Momma

Skylar swiped her hand across her eyes wiping the tears that had formed in the corners of her eyes before picking up her birth certificate her eyes quickly going toward the space that said who the father was.

"Dominic Toretto," she said then set it down and picked up the other picture and flipped it over reading the caption finding the same name as on the prom picture then saw the address in the bottom right-hand corner of it. She then flipped the picture back over and stared at the face of the man she now knew was her father. She heard the stairs creak as Alicia came back down.

"Your mom and I always thought you seemed to have his nose and his temper," she said looking from the picture to Skylar. Skylar said nothing as she continued to stare at the picture.

"Sky sweetheart your mother admitted she was wrong keeping this from you for so long. But she did try to make things right."

Skylar nodded her head and finally looked up from the photo.

"He's coming isn't he?" she asked her voice sounding strained even to her own ears.

Alicia nodded, "He said that even though they had not spoken in years that he had spoken to your grandparents and they insisted he come even though they weren't."

"You think they told him?" Skylark asked her eyes widening.

"That could be a possibility but I can't say for sure."

"Oh god," Skylar said burying her face in her hands, "This is going to be weird; I mean how many people can say they met their dad for the first time at their mom's funeral?"

Alicia shook her head noting the sarcasm in Skylar's voice. Sarcasm she knew was a way that she always tried to cover her fears.

"It won't be that bad sweetheart I'm sure," she told her giving her a reassuring pat on her back before she looked up at the clock, "Oh my! We need to go!"

"Already?" Skylar said knowing that this was going to make the fact that her mom was gone all too real, more real than she was ready for.

Alicia nodded, "Afraid so."

Skylark nodded as she stood to place everything but the pictures back into the box.

He watched as they exited the house smirking to himself as he saw the garage door open revealing a very black, very American muscle street race-worthy car.

"Seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree," a voice said beside him causing him to pull his eyes away from the two women entering the car he was watching to the one sitting in his car.

"It's gonna take more than some sleek car to prove she's mine Letty," he said looking back as the car pulled out of the driveway and down the street. Letty rolled her eyes at him.

"Then what about her eyes? Or how she walks? Dom don't be stupid. You know she's yours."

He said nothing his eyes moving to the picture he held in his hand. He knew he couldn't deny it. She was every bit his daughter. The confidence in her walk, the stubbornness seen in the picture he held, as well as the shape and color of her eyes, all proved that Letty was right. He shifted his car into gear and revved the engine before looking back to her.

"What's your problem? You act like you're expecting her to beat the shit outta you or something."

"Never know you said yourself the apple doesn't fall far from the tree," was all Dom said before streaming down the road weaving around traffic.
