"Why didn't you say something about that asshole havin your number?" Dom asked as they wove around the early afternoon traffic.

"I forgot he had it until he called me honestly," she said pushing her dark hair out of her face.

"You need to pay attention to shit like that Skylar," he said glancing over at her, "The whole reason why I wanted you to come was so that you were better protected. Now I feel like I'm failing."

"I'm sorry," she said softly.

"It's not your fault. Just don't let things like that slip your mind."

She nodded then looked over at him, "So why didn't you try to find my mom?"

"I did," he said taking a right at the light, "but no one was saying where she was."

"Did you think that," she shrugged, "well that this was what happened?"

"I thought that that may be it but with no one talkin I had no way of knowin for sure."

"So you gave up," she said looking out the window.

He sighed, "I didn't give up; shit just happened Skylar. There was no time to stop by and say hi when I was runnin from the cops."

"You do any time?" she asked.

"Some."

Skylar didn't ask any more about it taking the hint that it was a subject he didn't want to talk about.

"So where are we going?"

"You need supplies right?" he asked taking a left.

"Yeah, but I thought Letty was taking me."

"Thought you and I could talk on the way," he said, "besides Letty will watch your car like a hawk and make sure Buster and Leon won't try and add shit to it."

"Buster?" she said looking over at him.

"When I first met Brian he thought he could best me in a race and ended up busting his car all to shit instead."

Skylar laughed and shook her head, "Bet he was pissed."

"He was but he helped me out when the cops were on my ass."

"What about Leon?" she said.

"He helps out in the garage from time to time and runs dispatch when we do races."

"How good are you?"

"No one's ever beat me."

"Not yet," she muttered.

"What's your best time?" he asked hearing her.

"Depends on which car I use."

"What about the car you have now?"

"Haven't had the chance to race it," she said, "I got it right before I left for school."

"How long has it been since you raced?"

"Um, three years?"

"I take it Renee didn't know?"

"Are you kidding me? She was going through enough."

"Did Alicia know?"

"I think she suspected but she didn't say anything to me about it."

"How would you feel about racing again?"

She shook her head, "Not sure I could since I haven't raced in so long."

Dom nodded saying nothing more then pulled into a store.
