He Sings

Ponyboy: Pony was a great singer. He just refused to sing in public for fear the gang would make fun of him. You two were alone; it was about 7:30 and Darry was working late while Soda went out on a date. You were wrapped up in his arms, half watching whatever boring western film ran on the TV. As you began dozing off, you heard Pony gently humming along to a song on the movie. Intrigued, you forced yourself stay but kept your eyes closed. After a few seconds, the gentle humming became a soft singing as he stoked your hair gently. "Are you lonesome tonight? Do you miss me tonight? Are you sorry we drifted apart? Does your memory strain to a brighter summer day when I kissed you and called you sweetheart..."

Johnny: It was after a particularly bad night with his parents; when he'd knocked on your door with that look on his face you knew instantly what was going on. You opened the door wider and pulled him inside, leading him gently up to your room. You sat him down on your bed and went to the bathroom to retrieve a wet cloth to clean up the gash on his cheek. After you had finished, you both laid back on your bed and he folded you gently into his arms. You knew it calmed him to hold you, and you loved being in his arms, so you just relaxed into him. Before too long, you felt his chest vibrating slightly; at first you'd thought he'd begun to snore softly but you soon realized he was singing quietly to you. After a few moments, you recognized it as the song your mother taught you; the same one you sang to Johnny when he had a nightmare.

Dally: It was after a rumble; the Socs had recognized you as Dally's girl and immediately targeted you while he was otherwise occupied. They'd carved a large gash in the skin by your hip, and continued beating you until you had at least 2 broken ribs. Dally and the rest of the gang had finally peeled them all off of you, but you didn't leave until they had all been beaten within an inch of their lives. Dallas scooped you up and raced back the Buck's with you in his arms, tending to you like he was your own personally (ridiculously hot) nurse. After getting you all wrapped up, he held you in his arms, careful not to bump your bandaged ribs. He started singing softly to you, "She used to sit down by the highway, and watch all the cars going by. And hang out down at the pool hall, and listen to the old men tell lies. They'd fill her head full of stories, of the places and things that they'd seen. She'd tell her friends about all her plans, and now she's a kid chasing dreams..." you glanced up in shock. "That's beautiful. Where did you learn it?" He cleared his throat and tossed his eyes away from yours, "My uh, my mom used to sing me that song when a couldn't sleep." You leaned up and kissed him softly on the lips.

Darry: (takes place a few years later) You smiled softly and felt your heart melt as you saw your husband Darry gently cradling your baby girl in his arms. His icy blue eyes melted for her, and turned soft as they met your daughters deep brown ones. "You have eyes just like your mama," he said softly, "beautiful and dark and warm and...." He trailed off quietly. You were about to walk in and tell him to put her to bed, until you heard him singing a nursery rhyme. "As I close my eyes, I remember a prayer, my mama sang to me. Know the lord is always with you, tonight. Angels are watching over you tonight, tonight." You felt a tear slip down your cheek at the scene before you. Damn pregnancy hormones hadn't gone away yet.

Sodapop: You and Soda were sitting on the edge of a secluded lake, about 2 hours from the Curtis home. You had the radio blasting and you were belting out lyrics in crazy voices and just having a great time. About 2:30 you'd gotten a bit drowsy, so you and Soda cuddled up on a blanket and started to doze off. As you were slipping into a light sleep, you heard Soda softly. "Wise men say, only fools rush in, but I can't help falling in love with you. Shall I say, it would be a sin, but I can help falling in love with you."

Steve: It was at your wedding during the first dance, Steve held you tightly and whispered sweet nothings in your ear. As your long white dress swayed between you, you thought of what your life with Steve would be like. Breaking you out of your reverie, Steve leaned leaned down and echoed Elvis Presley's sweet words back to you, "Love me tender, love me sweet. Never let me go. You have made my life complete, and I love you so. Love me tender, love me dear, all my dreams fulfilled. Oh my darling, I love you, and I always will." With tears shining in your eyes, you leaned up and kissed him.

Two-Bit: Your were staying over at your boyfriend Two-Bits house, watching Frankenstein on the couch in his arms. You didn't know why but that movie scared you, always had, but you didn't want to seem like a wimp and ask to turn it off. Later that night, all you could think about was severed body parts and monsters coming after you. You woke with a start, Two leaning over you and shaking you gently. "You're okay baby, you're okay. It was just a nightmare. 'Oh since my baby left me. I found a new place to dwell. Well it's down at the end of lonely street, it's heartbreak hotel'" he started up in a ridiculously exaggerated version of Heartbreak Hotel that had you laughing out loud and forgetting all about monsters.
