Magic Overload

"WAKE UP RILEY!" That's what I heard as soon as I woke up. Anthony was hovering over me. I shot up from the bed and started walking around his room in circles, holding my head. "Anthony... I need answers and I need them now." I said, still walking in circles with my head down. "Ok... I knew this day would come..." He answered. "Your parents, Selena and Michael, their real names are Corral and River. Corral was of course a mermaid. One day, your father, River, took his daily trip down to the local river that he was named after. His name was actually Hudson. After so many people got used to his name, they all just called him River. Mostly because he also loved to go down to the river every day. Anyway, when he went to the river, he noticed something in the waves. He took off his shirt and dived in. He felt what felt like another body. Using his practice from being a lifeguard at the public pool, River swept the body up in his arms and brought it onto land. He gasped when he noticed that it was a mermaid. He could tell from all of the fiction books that he had read in the past. When air reached her scales, she grew legs. River wrapped his shirt around her. It was to big for her so it reached below her butt. He carried her to his house. His parents weren't home so he went upstairs and laid her on his bed. She fell asleep." Anthony told me. He sat on the bed and looked at me as he reached for the remote. "What happened next?!" I asked anxiously. "Nothing much, River just fell in love with Corral when she woke up and they got married and had a gorgeous daughter. But they made a deal to never tell you about being magical. They wanted you to be able to live a normal life. Your name is actually Veronica. That is the reason that you burned me earlier. Your powers. When I came along, I fell in love with you, my mate. I was ordered by your parents to keep you safe. I am your protector." "And what about the war?" I asked. "All magical beings are put to war every 20 years. It is the law of magic to keep the secrets of magic from humans. This year, your parents started to understand that they can not protect you forever so, they are tributes this year. I don't go to war because ever since I vowed to be your protector, I have hidden myself from the magical world. Your parents called me about 10 minutes before you woke up. You will technically be living with me for the next 5 years... depending on how strong your parents are in the war... They left for the war already. Brandon and Lily are at Brandon's mansion.
