It takes a while to get home so, my mom tried to entertain a conversation. "So, this Sylvia girl, is she new at school?" She asked. "No, actually, I met her at the pond. When I went to take a little swim, I opened up the bushes and saw her. You'll never believe this! She's really a mer-" I almost forgot, I couldn't tell my mom this! She might tell everyone and then scientists might want to put her in a lab and do tests on her. And I could NEVER do that to my new friend! "Well?" My mom asked "she's a what?" "She's a...mermaid... In the school play!" "That's awesome! Good for her! Well? When can I see this school play?" She asked excitedly.
"Um, it's not for our school... She lives in another area... At a different town... With a different school!" I said nervously.
"Is everything Ok, honey? Your stuttering. You only do that when your nervous or scared." She said with care. "Ya, I'm fine, I'm just nervous if she'll... Um... Like my house or not..." I said with caution. "I'm sure she'll be fine! Oh look, were home. You can stay in here and think and meet me inside if you want! Love you!" She said. "Ok, thanks!" I said automatically. And she went inside, leaving me to think about how this is all going to go down.
