Hardships

The next day was hotter.Even in the morning.

The crew got through the hills and onto a plain.It seemed then that the venom was going into Phase 2.Sore throat?Check.Extreme tiredness?Check.Jesse was actually riding on Axel's shoulder.Numbness in the bite areas?Check.

Petra guessed it would be gone soon.

Horses came over to check them out.

"If only we had saddles."Axel sighed.

"We're going faster than I thought.We could get to the Far Lands in a day or so."Jesse pet Axel's head from his shoulder.

"Does that mean you'll forgive us for the book thing?"Axel asked,adding a small smile.

"I forgive you."Jesse glared at Olivia and Petra.

Why?Why just Axel?
Petra knew Olivia felt the same.There was hurt in Olivia's eyes.

And then the sun was going down again.

"Better make a shelter."Olivia's voice was dull.

"A hut."Axel corrected,lowering Jesse from his shoulder.

"No."Olivia put her hands on her hips."A tree- oh,forget it."

"There's no trees anyway."Petra said.

Olivia started breaking away dirt for the hut,when Jesse shouted.

"W-wait!"Her emerald eyes widened,looking at her map.

"What's up?"Petra asked.

"If this map is right..."She fiddled with the pieces."Then the Far Lands should be just up ahead!"

Olivia and Petra exchanged glances.For once they both didn't want to go straight into action.

"Shouldn't we rest first?"Olivia asked.

"Why?!We can get Reuben back!We can get Reuben back!"Jesse shouted.

"But Jesse-"Petra started.

"Don't do that."Jesse snapped."If we rest,we might get attacked by another horde,becuase I seem to be the centre of bad luck."

"Us finding you was bad luck?"Petra choked out.

"I...no..."Jesse looked away."Not everything is bad luck,Petra.I just want Reuben back!"

"Jesse's the leader."Axel pointed out the obvious.Then he went pale."And thaaaaattttt'sssss a lot of Creepers.

Jesse went pale too.Petra and Olivia turned around.

"Wait,where's Lukas?!"Olivia shouted."Lukas?!"

"He must've gone on ahead!"Jesse yelled."But we have to run!"

"Jesse,climb on to my shoulder."Axel ordered.

"Hiiiiissssssss"

The horde of creepers got closer.

"Am I that weak?"Jesse looked at herself.

"Think of it as when I had the Wither sickness."Petra unsheathed her sword."We don't have time for this!"

Jesse climbed onto Axel's shoulder and he ran.Olivia followed closely,yelling Lukas's name.Petra hesitated,her battles with Creepers coming to mind.Another memory surfaced.

Whatever we do,we're doing it together.

We fight.

Petra turned.

Jump!

I don't wanna diiieeeee!

Petra ran.

It burns!It buuurrrnnnss!
