Hehehe...it finally begins...
...
A short scream escaped from my lips as something woke me up. I was cold and wet, and I was lying down in an uncomfortable position on the staircase.
I looked up, rubbing my eyes so I could see what was hovering above me. It was my mother, her face as blank and emotionless as usual. She was holding an empty bucket, and Claudia, who was behind her, was trying to hold back her laughter.
That could only mean one thing...
"Get up," she demanded.
I tried standing up, but for some reason I was rather weak so it took a while to get on my feet.
"W-what happened...?" I murmured.
"For whatever reason, which we will be getting back to, you were sleeping on the staircase."
"So you threw a bucket of cold water at me?!" I tried shouting, starting to get frustrated.
...She simply answered with "yes".
My mother just ignored the short laugh that escaped her lips.
Images kept flashing through my mind, mostly about the mysterious entity I saw yesterday. They weren't clear, but there was one sentence that wouldn't stay out of my head.
Alyssa is here...
"So, you're not going to tell me what you were doing on the staircase?"
If only I could tell her everything, about what I saw on that night, but she wouldn't have believed me...
"I...I don't know..." I lied.
"Well then...if you're not going to tell me, then I guess a punishment is in order."
All I could do was sigh as I awaited what was coming to me.
"Since you're so keen on sleeping on the staircase...that can be your new bed for the next week. You'll be sleeping on them until then."
Well, wasn't this just great. I noticed a slight devious smile on her lips, but once I saw it she hid it quickly. I swear, her and my sister must find pleasure in making me suffer.
"B-but..."
"No buts. If anything, you should be saying thank you since you obviously love sleeping on the stairs so much."
I muttered the word bitch quietly, hopefully she didn't hear me.
"Anyway, we have a busy day ahead of us, so I want you both to get ready as soon as possible."
I knew what she meant by that, tomorrow was my first day at my new school. Dammit...I missed my old one, that was a place where I actually had friends'. I doubted that I could ever achieve the same amount of happy memories as I did in those days. I guess that was because they were all taken away from me once we moved here.
...
Seriously? Was this actually happening?
My bedroom door was locked, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't open it. As I struggled, my sister chuckled in the background.
"Didn't she already tell you?"
"Tell me what, that I'm actually adopted?" I grunted as I rolled my eyes.
"No, dumbass. Since you'll be sleeping on the stairs for a while, you won't need to go back to your bedroom."
She had that triumphant smirk that I really despised, one that will never cease to frustrate me. Couldn't she just annoy her dozens of friends' or something? The only reason they put up with her is for her money anyway. People would do anything to get some of it...it was rather depressing.
I kept trying to open the door, wishing that this was some kind of bad dream and not actually happening. Sadly, I was still in reality, locked out of the one place where I could be at peace. Even with the bloody messages on the walls, it was better than anywhere else.
They really do hate me, don't they...why?
"Why don't you just mind your own business..." I muttered.
"What?"
"I said..."
...As I tried to finish my sentence, the words didn't come out of my mouth. Literally. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't say anything. No sound was coming out.
"Umm...what are you doing?" she said, still chuckling as I looked like an idiot desperately struggling to make a sound.
I just needed to get out of this awkward situation...I tried opening my bedroom door again, but my efforts were futile. Nothing worked.
"Look, are you going to say anything, or are you just going to run around like an moron?"
I was desperate to leave, so I had no choice but to run away. I eventually ran into a spare room and shut the room behind me. There were lots of these, rooms which were empty because we didn't need them. I kept trying to speak, and nothing worked. Somehow, I became completely mute without any explanation as to how it happened. I was so lucky that my mother wasn't here...
Could this be Alyssa's doing? Or that weird monster from last night?
I heard footsteps. I turned my head frantically, but once I did, they were gone. I was shocked as I found yet another bloody message on the once untouched wall.
AcTiOnS sPeAk LoUdEr ThAn WoRdS.
This message was different somehow...it seemed to have more meaning put into it than the others, and it related directly to the problem I was facing. It was like the ghost was trying to teach me something. Once again I asked the question to myself that no one so far has been willing to answer. Why? I really hoped that this torment wouldn't be endless or something.
Then, a cloud of pitch black darkness started forming in the center of the room.
I frantically tried escaping, but I couldn't open it. As much as I kept pounding on it with all of the strength I had left, waiting for either one of my family members to rescue me, they never came...
I guess I had no choice but to wait and see what was hiding inside the darkness.
