A new player...a new game...

...

It was one week. I still hadn't touched that computer, the paranoia was just too much. Dammit, that was another thing Alyssa ruined for me...

Maybe I was going about this wrong...I needed to look elsewhere for information. Surely there were mysteries hidden in this mansion somewhere. There had to be. Then again those were probably only in books and such.

Either way, I don't think I could ever go near that computer again. Claudia seemed to be happy about my new life decision, anyway.

There had to be another way. Then again...she was always watching me. Well, hopefully not always, it could also be my paranoia.

What made me curious was that symbol that I found in the library, it must have some kind of meaning. There was also those books in that strange language...

Thankfully I hadn't seen Alyssa, not even once, since what happened last week. Something about made me feel even more uneasy.

The housemaid was supposed to be coming today, which did excite me a little because being alone with no one to comfort you all the time was tiring.

I lied on my bed as usual, fiddling with the necklace that I occasionally wore. My parents and sister didn't know that I had it, they probably wouldn't be very happy if they found out about it. Not only because they'd once again judge me for my "silly superstitions", but...

The door flung open, and Claudia was there, looking frustrated.

"Owen."

"There's this thing called "knocking". You should try it sometime," I replied sarcastically.

"Why isn't the housemaid here yet?" Claudia moaned, ignoring my previous statement.

"Does it really matter?"

"What if our mother actually makes me clean my room myself?!"

There was such melodrama in her voice when she said that, I had to hold back a chuckle. At the same time, I was both annoyed and amazed at how spoilt she was.

"Then you could actually be useful for once in your life."

"What makes you think you're anymore useful?"

Well, she definitely made a valid point there. I wasn't exactly what anyone would call "useful".

"Whatever."

She then left, obviously feeling triumphant at the fact that she won our little argument. Thankfully she didn't care enough to notice the necklace, which I took off and hid in my pocket.

I finally managed to get out of my bed, daring myself to walk downstairs to see if the new housemaid was here.

As I walked to the front door, I saw the scene unfold. My mother was looking down at the housemaid with a cold expression, one that displayed an emotion of anger, yet it looked so emotionless at the same time.

"You're late."

"I'm sorry, I..."

"I don't care. Either way this is coming out of your pay cheque."

"Ok..."

The housemaid was very short, had brown tangly hair with eyes of the same colour, and she had a look of fear and worry on her face. Then again, most people who talked to my mother had that look. She seemed to be very passive, someone who probably didn't speak their mind most of the time.
