I walked up to this gruesome and heartbreaking display. Was he actually suffering or was this just some kind of illusion?
I hesitantly walked up to him, and he started groaning softly in pain. I wouldn't be surprised if something jumped up at me or something...
"Dorothy..." he moaned.
Where was Dorothy though?
I finally remembered what led me to this surreal location in the first place, her running away after Alyssa decided to cause mischief.
Could she even be here?
"I need to...see her again..."
I tried getting a little closer, until I managed to get a closer look at him.
"I tried to find her, I really did, but..." I told the old man suspended in the air. What was I even doing. I highly doubted he'd be able to hear me, answer me, or even understand.
"Is she...happy..."
Well, based on the one encounter I had with her, she wasn't happy at all. She seemed to be struggling so much with her life, it honestly broke my heart a little.
"I don't know."
"Is she...is she in heaven..."
Heaven? Was he even making sense at this point?
"What are you talking about?"
A strong wind suddenly started blowing.
...
The voice of a young girl could be heard from the distance, as if she was also a part of this strange conversation.
"I wish I was, but alas..."
A portal of light suddenly materialized in front of the old man, which forced me to cover my eyes due to it's brightness. A girl walked out of it, and that girl was...Dorothy?!
She looked down at the old man with a sad expression, stroking his forehead. As she did so, blood stopped pouring from him onto the ground. The portal also disappeared.
"Things don't always go the way you want them too..."
What the...they both knew each other?
"Ahh, such a sad yet accurate quote. A quote that everyone should share with others."
Dammit, not her again...
Alyssa materialized next to Dorothy, chuckling to herself. So now that Thomas was gone, Dorothy was her next target. Of all people, why did it have to be her?
"Dorothy, what are you doing? Why the hell are you working with her?" I asked.
"Tell him, Dorothy. Let the world know of your suffering."
"You wouldn't understand, Owen..."
I couldn't help but frown at Dorothy's words.
"How could I not understand?!"
"You live a perfect life. In a perfect mansion, with lowly maids like me serving you hand and foot..."
"Trust me, I never wanted this "perfect" life."
"I doubt that. You never appreciate things until they're gone. Once you lose your current lifestyle you'll want it back. Without the huge amounts of money you're getting, that you don't deserve, you'd be left with nothing."
What? I was nothing like those snobby rich people. Even though I used to buy a lot of things for myself in the past, mostly stuff related to my obsession with the paranormal, I'd much rather give what I have to the people who deserve it. I'd starve if it meant that people in need would no longer go hungry.
