ELENA
I walked into the dining hall with my long train following behind me. As I walked, I could hear the clacking of my heels in the hardwood floor. Looking around, I frowned at the lack of color and lighting. The walls were painted dark red with black curtains covering the windows. Even the hardwood floor was a dark brown.Walking over to the window, I opened the curtain slightly trying to find some light. Two voices erupted trough the hallway. I turned around as the curtain fell back in place.
"What are you doing Elena?" My mother asked me. She had that same look of disappointment written on her face.
"I was looking for the sun mother. It would be nice to have some light in here," I explained.
"Well that would be foolish. Take your seat. Your father wants to talk to you."
I grabbed a seat at the long dining table. It sits twenty five people and is rarely used. Since my father was joining us for supper, we were sitting at this table. Personally, I hated the table. It was too big and not intimate enough. I felt like I was screaming to discuss something to someone across the table. My father entered the room in a swift motion. He sat at the table in a proper manner along with my mother who sat next to him, as always.
"Hello sir," I said.
"Elena," he nodded. "Miranda."
"Hello king," I heard my mother say.
"Now Elena, has your mother told you the news?" I looked at her slightly confused.
"I'm unaware of any news sir."
"We're moving the date of the party," he said.
"Well when is it?" I asked him. I hoped that he'd make it next month at least.
"Tomorrow." I choked on a piece of pie.
"Tomorrow?" I barely asked him. He nodded.
"We think that it's in your best interest if you marry sooner," my mother explained. I stared at her in disbelief.
"We, or father? Because last time I checked you didn't have any call in your daughter's life."
"Elena! You are out of line!" My father barked.
"Father, I don't want to marry. I'm not in love!" I pleaded.
"You've had years to fall in love. If you don't find love now you never will. The ball will give you enough royal men to choose from. Then we will proceed with the wedding."
"But father!"
"Don't even try to get out of this Elena. You're the princess. They need you and a prince to take over after the queen and I. Without a prince, you aren't anything. Therefore, you must marry. There is no time for true love. Eventually you will come to love the man you choose tomorrow."
I sat back in my chair as the many thoughts crossed through my mind. I hated everything about this. I didn't want to marry because I wanted to love the man I was marrying.
That night, I fell asleep early wishing that I was no longer a princess.
DEAN
I looked at the girl lying in my bed. She was lying in my sheets naked. Her name was something like 'Jane' or maybe 'Melanie'. At this point, I didn't care. I just needed her out of here.
I picked up my phone and started playing my ringtone. She started to move which gave me the chance to get up.
"Hello?" I "answered" into the phone.
She looked at me confused and tired.
"Oh no! Yeah I'll be right there!" I said into the phone. I hung it up and looked at the woman.
"Look, I'm so sorry but there's been an emergency at work! I have to leave as soon as possible. I'm so sorry! I was hoping I could make you some breakfast and we could spend the day talking but now that's ruined!" I pouted and looked at the floor.
"Don't worry about it! Just call me when everything gets settled," she said as she threw on her clothes.
I walked her to the door and waved bye to her as she got in her car and left. Slamming the door shut, I went back upstairs and fell asleep once again.
That afternoon I woke up to my phone actually ringing. I groaned and picked it up slightly annoyed.
"What?" I answered.
"Dean, it's Sam."
"What's up Sammy? Where are you?" I asked him looking at the time.
"I stayed after school a little longer. Dean, we need to talk about last night," I heard him sigh.
"I don't want to talk Sam."
"But Dean..."
"No Sammy! Dad did this on his own! He didn't take care of himself and that's not my fault!"
"Dean, he's our father," Sam sighed.
"And that's supposed to make me feel bad? He drank himself to his death. It's not my fault."
"Alright Dean, well the funeral is Wednesday." I looked at my calendar seeing that today was Friday.
"Sam I can't," I sighed. He said his goodbyes and we hung up the phone.
