"Martin, Martin get up. We have to take our shift." "Huh?" "We have to go take our post now." "Oh, okay I'm coming." I go into the bathroom and get ready. "Ready?" "Yeah, I guess." We walk out our room and go to our post. "Does anybody know how this war started in the first place?" Someone from our camp said. "Of Militarism." Melvin explained "Huh?" The guy said. "Because my country has a great army, so Germany wanted a great army. Germany and France are both competing for larger armies that's why." "Oh." "I heard that Russia signed a treaty with Central Powers, so Germany was forced to give up the territory they got in their war." "Uh, so mmm-" "Martin." "Well Martin why did Nicholas II sign a treaty with Central Powers?" "Well he didn't really. Nicholas II threw out his father's cousin, took control of the supreme command, dismissed his ministers, and made his nation struggle. So he was overthrown and Bolshevik took his place and tried to get out of the war with the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk." "Well aren't you the nerd." Everyone started laughing at me. "Hey I would rather be smart than not know what's going on." Melvin said. Everyone was quite after that and went back to their post.
"Thank you." "They shouldn't be picking on you like that and I thought that was really cool, you knowing all that stuff." "Thanks." "Yeah, no problem." "So you're from Britain." I commented "Yeah." "What's it like there?" "Pretty bad when I left, with food rationing and all." "Yeah I understand." "What do you think about this war?" Melvin asked me "I think that the working class should control the government and economy payment, and that the government production and distribution of goods should be based upon ability and needs." "Like Vladimir Lennon?" "Yeah, you too?" "Yeah."
I had spend 9 hours at my post and talking with Melvin. He's such an amazing guy. I feel like I can trust him and I think I'm falling for him. I can't get distracted, I have to avenge father and make a better life for my family.
