The room was filled with music, laughter and happiness. Everyone was relaxed except for one person. I was still talking to Crystal, even though she made good eye contact she just couldn’t hide that something was nipping at her skin. Ignoring the music and all the noises that came from people’s voices I carried on with my conversation with her but to be honest I felt as if it would be more entertaining to talk to a brick wall.
‘So we only have two more days left of collage and then we’re going on that stupid camping trip, I’m sure everyone is going to be there anyways!’ Her eyed were dead still and he posture was somewhat uncomfortable. I placed my paper cup on the side table and crossed my arms, this she didn’t even notice.
‘Crystal! What’s that matter?’ she gave me a blank look of innocence. ‘What’s wrong with you? You’ve been acting weird since you came back.’ I stood there for a moment as she just looked down. ‘Wait…don’t tell me it’s something to do with…Trent? Is that the person you were with outside! Crystal what were you thinking!’
‘Just drop it Cassidy! I think I can handle it!’
‘Crystal! What did he do!? Answer me now! Tell me the truth I’m your best friend!’ I said with a huge sigh, dangling me arms as if I was tired of repeating myself.
‘Look Cassidy, I’m fine!’ she said rather convincingly. ‘Trent wasn’t saying anything nasty, and besides…like I said…I can handle him. I’m perfect babes,’ she said stoking my face once. ‘Now, stop worrying.’ She smiled at me and I couldn’t help but smile back. Well, she seemed fine enough and she was right, I always did worry too much so I decided to just enjoy the part for Kyle just as she did. We smiled at each other once more as she sipped on her drinking cup. The party carried on, after the hours went by people left, until the numbers became smaller and smaller and soon enough it was just us four left. I waved the last person out and thanked them for coming then turned to Trey who hooked his thumbs into my jeans.
‘Your not drunk are you?’ I laughed. His face dropped onto mine, his feet a little unstable.
‘Maybe…’ he grinned; his breath had the tang of alcohol.
‘Okay honey, go lie down…I think you are.’ He eyes dropped close and he slurred:
‘I’m nooot! I’m fiiiine!’ I laughed at his silliness until one person made my smile vanish. Josh strolled out of the bathroom casually; he stopped to look at Trey’s back and my face and he smirked. Before words made it out of his open mouth Crystal appeared carrying a can of coke.
‘Watch out Josh! It’s not sugar free!’ She said waving the can in his face. Giggling at Crystal’s joke, Trey turned around and gave a Josh a dismissive look.
’12 percent of the moon is made out of cheese,’ he said in a high and sloppy voice before collapsing onto the floor. I burst out laugh throwing my head back. Untangling his from my legs I went and opened the door.
‘Get out Josh and your not thanked for coming.’ I said smiling scornfully.
‘What, you’re just going to leave him on the floor in that state.’ He questioned, eyebrows crossed. Just then Crystal came strolling to my side, sipping from the can. Standing by my side she said:
‘Stop pretending you care honey, now get out.’ She grinned at him gulping down the can. Without another word, Josh slipped on his jacket and brushed past us, not even taking a look back. I breathed a sigh of relief then found the tonnes of mess that was left for everyone to clean up. My eyes averted to the half asleep Trey whose heavy body was slumped on the floor, legs and arms spread out like a star. I giggled silently just laughing at how he would have a major hang over tomorrow morning. I looked around the room and without a second thought, started to pick up all the crushed cans and layers of crisp packets that were piling up on the floor thanks to Crystal. Crystal started to wipe down tables while I bent down and chucked the rubbish into the black bin bag.
