"Alright Miss Aria, you're good to go." The doctor said.
I had to come back to the hospital to get my stitches removed a week later, it was almost worse than when I was actually shot. I had never had stitches before because, although I was a badass fighting machine, I was a careful one.
"Ready to go?" Kris asked when he came into the room, handing me a coffee.
"Yep, let's get out of here." I said, standing up and looking at my arm every couple of seconds. I was curious if there was going to be a scar.
"Did it hurt?" Kris asked.
"Getting the stitches removed? Yeah, kinda." I replied, trying to stay tough.
"No, when you fell from heaven."
I gagged on the coffee I was drinking. "You're not being serious?" I asked, laughing.
"I like to use cheesy pick up lines sometimes." Kris smiled, "Did it work?"
"No." I laughed, "You're going to have to try something better next time."
"Challenge accepted." He said, about to wrap his arm around my shoulder.
"Excuse me?" I heard a tiny voice behind us.
We turned around to see a little girl wearing hospital clothing, holding a paper up to us. She looked nervous, but adorable.
"Can I have your autograph?" She asked.
"Oh, sure." Kris started to say, reaching out for the paper.
"N-no, not you." She said, moving the paper. "Sorry. I wanted her autograph."
"What?" I asked, surprised.
"You're my role model." She said, smiling, "You're so strong and confident. I want to be just as strong as you some day."
'Wow.' I thought, 'I can't believe this is really happening.'
I knelt down and took the paper, signing it and handing it back to her. "You'll be much stronger than me one day." I said, smiling at her, patting her on the head.
She beamed and hugged me tightly.
"Will you come back and visit me some day?" She asked.
I nodded, even though I knew I might be too busy.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Kim Seohyun, I'm nine years old." She replied quickly.
"Okay Seohyun." I said, writing my phone number down on the paper, "You call me whenever you're feeling sad okay?"
She nodded quickly and hugged me one more time.
I stood and waved goodbye to her.
"Bye! See you again Unnie!" She said excitedly.
"See you again." I smiled.
The both of us exited the hospital without saying a word. The effect of that little girl's words lingered. I felt like I was really a great person; that's the effect that a complement has on you.
When we were outside of the hospital, Kris kept looking over at me before he said anything.
"I'm jealous." Kris said, "She liked you better than me." He chuckled.
"That's the first kid that's ever liked me." I confessed, "Most kids I meet seem to instinctively avoid me. I don't know what it is, but it sucks. I always thought it was me, but I guess it wasn't."
"You're a bit scary sometimes." Kris said, "That's probably why. But Seohyun, and many other people now I bet, know the real you. There are going to be a ton kids looking up to you now."
I smiled. Hopefully I could start a new generation of badasses.
"So." He said, "Now that your stitches are out, shall we celebrate?"
"How?" I asked. "More lasertag!?"
"No," He chuckled, "We don't have enough time for that. Something simple."
"How simple?" I asked.
He stopped walking and turned to face me, excitement evident on his face. "Let's go on a date!"
"A date?"
"Yeah, I'll take you to the nicest restaurant I know. And we could go to some nice club or something." He sounded excited about it, taking my hand, "I want everyone to know we're dating."
"I don't know about that..." I said, "I've never been to a club."
Well, I had never been to a club for personal enjoyment, only to protect people, not for fun; and I didn't think I'd enjoy being to a club anyway.
"It'll be fun, I promise!" He said, "No crazy clubs, just a classy one. A little bit of drinking, but not too much. I'm talking wine, champagne and people watching, what do you think?"
"I have a feeling people will be watching us, not the other way around..." I muttered.
A car pulled up to us and we entered it, Kris still trying to persuade me on this date.
My introverted personality was telling me it was a bad idea, but by badass personality was telling me that I shouldn't back down from any new challenges.
I sighed, "Fine. I'll do it."
"Great!" He said, not looking surprised.
"You're not surprised I agreed?" I asked.
"I've got a lot of charm." Kris said, "I knew I could persuade you."
'I don't know how I feel about that...' I thought.
"But, I have nothing nice to wear." I said, the nicest thing I owned being the couple shirts that Kris bought me.
"I'll take care of that." He said, taking out his phone and getting to work at making calls.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of everything tonight, you won't have to put in any effort. Just have fun." Kris said.
'Just have fun?' I thought, 'That's usually a huge task in and of itself.'
