I woke up early the next morning and went for a run through Seoul. I took the time to clear my head and arrived before the boys woke up. I took a shower to wash the sweat off me, jealous of all their expensive products that crowded the shelves.
I got out of the shower and toweled off in front of the mirror, brushing through my dark hair that I had permanently straightened. (They had some good salons in Korea.) I took a moment to assess my current physique. I was slim and well toned, which is what years of training would get you. I had slim and muscular arms and legs that were almost pure muscle, which was something you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at me. Last time I measured myself I was 5'8, and I wanted very much to be taller, which was something good in America. However it was the opposite in Korea, I was taller than most girls in Korea, and some guys.
I got dressed and exited the bathroom, ready to do something slightly productive. Perhaps I'd read a book, of course I'd have to eat breakfast, but after that... I suppose I would have to find a new kick boxing gym to go to.
"Aria." Kris said, "We'll be leaving soon."
"What?" I asked, completely surprised and unprepared to go anywhere dressed in lounge-wear. "Where are we going?"
"We'll be appearing on a radio show today, the studio's close by, though, so we'll be back home tonight." He said.
"Oh, alright. I'd better get dressed then." I jogged to my room and shut the door, getting changed into one of my many pairs of distressed jeans and a plaid flannel.
I emerged ready to leave, even though I hadn't eaten anything.
EXO was sitting in the living room, waiting for me. The manager was also there, "Sorry I hadn't told you in advance but from now on just expect that there will be events everyday."
'So much for doing anything productive.' I thought.
Kris must have been lying when he said the recording studio was nearby; after a 2-hour drive we arrived.
The boys seemed unfazed by the drive as they emerged from the van, but I felt carsick.
Fans waited outside the building, screaming and waving. I wondered why they would wait outside of a building just to see EXO walk by, it's not like they were going to speak to them. EXO was simply appearing on a radio station, they'd have to tune into a radio if they wanted to hear them.
'I guess I shouldn't question fan logic.' I thought as I followed weakly behind them, regretting not taking any motion sickness medicine before leaving.
The only one that noticed my slowness was Kris.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Not really, I get carsick." I replied.
"Oh, sorry. Do you need some medicine."
'Too late now.' I thought. "No I'll be okay."
The DJ was waiting for us in a small room filled with lots of equipment and barely enough room for all of us. He started the show, welcoming EXO and going on about their current achievements.
I wondered if they had any soda that would settle my stomach, but couldn't find anyone to ask. So I leaned against the wall and listened to them talk with my eyes closed, trying to calm the headache.
"How do you guys feel about your newest song Overdose?" The DJ asked.
"I think it turned out really well," Kris said, "We worked very hard on it and I think the end results are good."
"I saw 26 + million views on youtube agrees with you." The DJ laughed. "We have a special gift for our listeners today because EXO will be singing it live for you here at the station."
I could only imagine how many fan girls were excited by that.
They sang the Korean version of the song, which I have to admit wasn't half bad. I guess years of training pays off in the end.
"Now we'll be accepting questions from our fans." The DJ said, "Here's our first caller."
The voice of a young girl could be heard through the studio, she was obviously very excited, "I wanted to ask who you'd say is the best dancer in EXO."
There wasn't even a debate, everyone unanimously said, "Kai."
I hadn't seen him dance yet, so I had high expectations.
"Kai really seems to steal the show whenever you're performing live." The DJ said. "Alright, let's see what the next caller has to say."
He clicked a button and the next person could be heard, "This question is for Tao. There's a rumor that you once had eight girlfriends at one time, is this true?"
Tao laughed nervously a little, "Um... I'm not a player or anything like that..."
I scoffed, but no one heard me.
He was still hesitant to answer. "I wouldn't have called them girlfriends."
The whole studio burst into laughter and started pointing at him as he turned red, "I knew it!" Kris said, "You're secretly a player."
I rolled my eyes and turned to leave. Waiting outside seemed more appealing than listening to this. But I stopped when I heard the next question.
"You guys were seen yesterday followed into your concert by a girl and into the radio station today with the same girl. We're all wondering who she is."
"She's our bodyguard." Luhan said.
"Yeah, and she's tougher than she looks." Chanyeol said, and I was slightly offended by that. I thought I looked plenty tough.
"I've been wondering the same thing," The DJ said, "She's in the studio right now. Why don't you guys ask her some questions directly?"
"Uh..." I said, about to protest.
"Here, stand by me." The DJ said, answering the next call.
"What's your name and what was your first impression when meeting EXO?"
I didn't want this to be about me at all. I sighed, "My name is Aria and I thought EXO seemed a lot like all the other celebrities I've met... no offense."
The next call came in, "Is there any member in particular you've bonded with?"
"I've been working about a day, but Kris seems nice." I said, waiting for this to end.
The other call, "Do you like Kris."
"I just said he seems nice, didn't I?"
"Are you romantically involved with him?" This one seemed angry.
"What?" This was getting to be annoying, "No. I'm just a bodyguard."
"This will be the last question for Aria." The DJ said, noticing that the tension was rising.
Thankfully it wasn't about Kris, "Where are you from? You look like a foreigner."
"I am of foreign decent, but I've lived in China and Korea most of my life. In terms ethnicity I'm Black, English and Korean." My father was Korean, so my mom told me.
"Now you know more about our surprise guest and EXO's bodyguard, Aria." I was relieved when it ended, "Now, on to the next segment."
"So, how was your first interview." Kris asked jokingly as we walked out to the van.
"Terrible." I replied, "I felt like I was being interrogated by people I didn't even know."
"That should be the end of that, so you won't have to worry about it anymore." He said, opening the van door for me.
"I don't know about that." I said, "You know fans can be crazy."
At that moment I had no idea just how much truth my words held.
