After a week I was finally released from the hospital into my own new little hell. The stitches in my back were going to have to remain there for a long time until they could be removed, and the doctor told me with certainty that I would have a giant scar.
'Well, there's a plus side...' I thought dejectedly. The bullet wound on my arm healed without leaving a scar, so now I would be officially a bad-ass with battle wounds.
Tao stood beside me, trying to be helpful. But in the end he was really only annoying me.
"Don't you have a schedule or something?" I asked, wanting to wallow in my own self-pity alone. "How are you able to be here right now without your manager coming to find you and kill me?"
"Don't you mean kill me not you?" Tao asked, chuckling.
"Nope." I replied, hailing a cab, "Whatever you guys do wrong that son of a bitch always finds a way to blame on me."
"Well, to answer your question, I do not have a schedule since we stopped promoting overdose recently." Tao replied, "So now I have time to take care of you." He smiled at me.
I frowned. "I can take care of myself." I muttered.
"Well, then I'll just keep you company." Tao said, opening the door to the cab that pulled up.
"I like silence." I replied jokingly and I got into the cab, trying to be careful of my back.
"Well then I'll stay quiet." He chuckled, taking a seat next to me.
'Somehow I doubt you're capable of that.' I thought, chuckling to myself.
I gave the address to my apartment to the cab driver, and he sped off at illegal speeds to get us there in nearly five minutes.
Tao got out and opened the door for me, trying to hold my hand. But I pulled away rather quickly, reaching into my pocket instead.
'What is he trying to do? It's not like we're dating.' I thought as I tried to nonchalantly take out my keys and unlock the door.
"Home sweet home." I muttered, looking into the apartment to see the place covered in a thin layer of dust with boxes stacked on top of each other with my name written on the front.
It felt strange walking into this place once again.
Though is was my house, it no longer felt like home.
"Oh look! A cat!" Tao said as he rushed to the sliding door. Outside on my balcony was the same cat I used to feed everyday, "It's so cute!"
Tao opened the door and let it in, the cat rubbed up against his ankles purring, waiting to be fed and entertained.
"I'm surprised it still comes around here. I left so long ago..." I muttered. I guess animals are still loyal, so there's still hope in the world.
"Is this your cat?" Tao asked, looking up at me happily as he pet it.
"No." I replied, "I just feed it."
"Well, I love it. Did you give it a name?" Tao asked.
"Why would I name it? It's not my cat."
"I would still name it. It looks like it's pretty attached to you."
"Well, I feed it, so..." It's the same kind of fondness people have for their bosses. Workers need their boss for money so they can survive, otherwise they wouldn't come to work everyday. I was simply this cat's 'office' that supplied it with food.
"What should we name it?" Tao asked, picking it up to hold in his hands.
'We?' I thought, my eyebrow twitching. 'This guy has a lot of confidence.'
