We arrived at the dorm in the evening. The manager left to do some business back at SM and said he’d return later.
“The manager lives here too?” I asked.
[Author’s note: I don’t know if this is true, if someone could tell me that’d be nice.]
“Yeah.” Kris replied, “But it’s just to make sure that we aren’t out late or doing anything bad… but I guess that’s your job now.”
‘So I am a babysitter.’ I thought, my head hanging a little.
The boys seemed really excited about the manager being gone.
“We should play another game!” Baekhyun suggested.
“Another… game…” It didn’t seem like a great idea. After all, the game the night before wasn’t fun at all. “Why don’t we just eat and I’ll go to bed-“
“No, no it’ll be fun this time!” Luhan said, looking around at everyone as if they all knew something I didn’t.
“Not for her, she doesn’t know us that well.” Kris said, “Aria's right, maybe we should just eat.”
“I’m not hungry.” Chen said, everyone started to agree with him. Truthfully, I wasn’t that hungry either since we ate a fairly late lunch; but that didn’t change the fact that I didn’t want to play a game with them.
“Alright, fine.” Kris sighed.
Everyone rejoiced and I remained indifferent.
“What kind of game is this?” I asked Kris, who was the only one that seemed to stay calm ever.
“It’s… a game that makes us closer, I guess… I don’t know, it wasn’t my idea.” He said, “It’s really simple, so don’t worry about it too much.”
I watched all of EXO sit down in a circle, leaving a spot for me. Someone brought dice, a piece of paper, a bottle, and all sorts of other things in the middle.
‘Don’t tell me we’re playing spin the bottle?’ I thought, ‘That’s so... middle school.’
“Come on, sit down.” Luhan said, bouncing around very excitedly.
“Fine.” I muttered, taking my seat in between Kris and Chanyeol. Tao was sitting right across from me, I had to stop myself from glaring.
“Should Aria start?” Xiumin asked.
I shook my head, ‘Of course not, I don’t even know the rules!’
“I’ll go first.” Kris said, taking the dice and rolling it. It landed on six, “Yes!” he yelled.
The rest of the members seemed disappointed.
“I don’t get it.” I said.
“It’s like a dare game.” Kris said to me in English, confusing everyone else, “A six means you don’t have to do anything.”
“…Okay, what does everything else mean?” I asked.
He smiled, “You’ll see.”
Next up was Xiumin. He rolled the dice and it landed on three. The other members laughed as I kept a straight face, waiting to see what would happen next. Xiumin spun the bottle in the middle and it landed on Luhan.
Xiumin and Luhan leaned into the circle and rubbed their noses together.
‘An Eskimo kiss?’ I thought.
The members laughed again.
‘I guess these guys have a very different way of bonding.’
Very different it was indeed. Most of the dares were things you’d see idols do on variety shows to make fans squeal. This included blowing into each other’s ear, doing push-ups with someone sitting on your back (which was fairly easy in my opinion) and the pepero game.
I sat with my arms crossed, watching the game unfold. When it was Tao’s turn I tensed a little. He rolled a four then spun the bottle and it landed on me.
‘Of course.’ I thought, feeling very uncomfortable. ‘He better just have to do push-ups because there’s no way I’m Eskimo kissing him.’
The members laughed when they saw the bottle was pointing to me.
“What does it mean?” I asked Kris.
“It’s the pepero game.” He said, smiling a little, “Sorry. You have to get it two centimeters small, so that should be easy.”
‘Says you!’ I thought, my face flushing.
“If it’s so easy why don’t you do it?” I asked, becoming anxious.
“Because the bottle landed on you.” He patted me on the back with the best of intentions, “I bet Tao will lead.” He spoke in Mandarin, “You’ll lead, won’t you Tao.”
Tao seemed a bit shy, but nodded.
“That doesn’t make anything better.” I said to Kris in English.
He was confused.
I started to panic as Tao took out the pepero and moved closer to me. I instinctively backed up.
The other members could tell I was uneasy about this and started chanting, “Pepero game! Pepero game!”
It was cute that they thought it was helping, but it wasn’t. It just reminded me that Tao was my enemy and he was getting dangerously close to me.
I could still hear them chant as Tao reached out to put the end of the pepero in my mouth.
“Pepero game! Pepero game!”
“No!” I screamed as I slapped Tao’s hand and the Pepero fell to the floor.
Everyone fell silent and Tao looked confused. How could a girl possibly refuse him, right?
I started hyperventilating for a moment before I stood and left the room feeling like a jerk. I ruined the fun, and it probably wouldn’t be the first time.
