The whole building shakes again, everything skidding another inch to the left, forcing shaky words out of my mouth.
"Wha... What is happening?!" I scream at Dean over the loud creaks and noises the building takes on in its fight to stay standing, "The government wouldn't be able to do this... Would they?!"
"No." Dean's input seeps into my mind, his hand still holding onto mine as if he let go, we would be separated forever, "I think there is something going on besides the government attacks..."
"But-" I start, but never get to finish as the building nearly gives away completely, shifting so much to the left that my body jerks away from Dean, my hand slipping right out of his comforting touch.
I barely have enough time to think before my body slams right into the vast window, shattering the glass and swinging out of the building with shards flying right behind me.
I cry out, catching a glimpse of Dean still inside the building, his hand holding tightly onto the wall that he must have been able to reach, his shocked expression putting my heartbeat on hold.
With my heart aching, I look away and stare down at the water below me that is covered with lifeless robot bodies and carcasses of lightning bugs, unsettling waves crashing and churning as if it belonged to a wild ocean.
I cringe as soon as my body hits the cold water and my head slides under, my senses bringing me back to the reality that I am underground, underwater, and under attack.
Slashing my arms and legs all around, I try to figure out which way is up and which way is down. In the murky water, I am unable to tell the difference between the night's surface, or the dark depths of the waters.
I wiggle around for a few seconds, my breath running out by every passing moment, and then finally feel my body drift upwards, the pressure in my head reducing every few feet.
When I surface, I suck in a big gulp of air, water nearly slipping into my mouth too, but drifting away, thankfully. I glance around frantically, my arms and legs keeping my body afloat, and the scene that unfolds before my very eyes unsettles my thoughts, emotions, and my confused state.
All of the round white buildings are attempting to stay up, with the help of at least a hundred people trying to hold it up while kicking and struggling in the water. I realize that all of the people's muscles bulge out of their arms and keep the buildings upright with just their strength. A few people inside the buildings scream, but for the most part everyone is contributing to the fight against the unidentified bots, each having a special ability to fight with.
Some people use their fists to make waves rise from the waters and shower upon as many robots as they can, sucking them into the water instantly. People use their abilities, such as the ability to use nature, the ability to transform, and any other ability that can help, to crush the things that invade this sanctuary of safety.
The place is in total chaos, my mind and heart racing when my eyes scroll over all of the fighting, my fingers slashing through robot parts and dead lightning bugs.
Then, dread makes the panic subside when I glance through a window and watch as a small girl gets caught by one of the robots, the spherical robot suddenly transforming into a mechanical ball with many arms. The robot then grabs a hold of the girl, the small girl kicking and screaming, tears streaming down her face and falling right into the disturbing waves of the navy-colored water as the robot takes the girl right through the window, shards of glass digging into her fragile skin, and then zooms straight up and away from all of the chaos to disappear into the darkness above.
