Emily nuzzled deeper into David's arms as they rode the hotel elevator. They spent hours alone after leaving the Queen's brunch just letting the incredible day sink in. After a while Jessie, Christopher, Brooke, and Eric came to their suite and they watched the news highlights from the big day. Eventually Emily and David were left alone to get ready for their night reception. David put on a nice double-breasted tux and Emily's favorite bright blue bowtie while Emily let down her curls and kept her dress on but changed her shoes. Leading the way back to the palace Emily and David excitedly returned to the palace for their black tie celebration with three hundred and fifty close friends and family.
First their parents were announced next the bridal party then Emily and David walked in to cheers and applause. Stepping onto the dance floor of the ballroom they had their first dance to Michael Buble's Everything covered by Adele. As they lovingly stared into each other's eyes three hundred and fifty family members, celebrities, and socialites from everywhere watched happily. When the song was over Adele gave a slight curtsey and handed a microphone to Emily.
Together Emily and David gave a quick welcome speech and queued the DJ to start the music. Walking around to each of the thirty-five round tables Emily and David greeted all of their guests. Afterwards they took their seats in the middle of their bridal party table up on a platform.
"Hello, hi," Adam said nervously. "I just wanted to say a few words very briefly. I knew David was going to be hanging around for a while when he continued to cower in front of me. Then he started to show up at family events and Emily's concerts and I realized Emily could stand him, which is a hard task. If anyone knows Emily they know that she is a tough sale she plays very close to the vest its not easy to get close to her. Anyway now David is apart of the family and he is the brother I always wanted for Eric and every father's dream guy, a prince. Now that I am soaking through my tux out of nerves I invite you all to please eat."
Happily everyone clapped knowing how much Adam hated publicly speaking and cheered as the first course was brought out. Everyone had a choice between soup or salad and choices within those two categories. After only having fruit and a few random canapés earlier Emily was starving and happily ate food that tasted amazing.
"Can I get you anything?" David asked.
"I'm perfect," Emily smiled.
"Exactly what I like to hear," David said kissing her.
"We're Mr. and Mrs." Emily squealed.
During the main course Emily and David looked out at all their friends and family mingling happily. The whole room was filled with love and happiness making Emily and David's day even better. Once the main course was over Jessie stood up on Emily's right and Christopher stood up on David's left to give their speeches.
"When I went to write my speech I realized Emily spent more of her free time at the palace," Jessie said.
"And I realized I'm not around enough to write my speech," Christopher sighed.
"So Jessie called me for help," Eric said standing up.
"And Christopher called me," Anne said doing the same. "Then we had the same realization as them."
"For some reason they called Phillip and me like we knew them best," Brooke said standing.
"All together," Philip said standing, "we put our memories together in one speech from us to you."
Suddenly the lights turned off and a slideshow began behind Emily and David. Narrated by the entire bridal party the slideshow started from Emily's first encounter with David. Brooke and Jessie shared the secret that Emily didn't want to meet David and Anne told how David didn't want to go to the concert. Some how Jessie and Brooke found Emily's stash of photos from all her visits with David, Emily was mortified while the rest of the room was in tears from laughing so hard.
Quickly the DJ took his queue and got people out on the dance floor focusing on something else, the tarantella. Afterwards Emily and Adam had their father daughter dance to the song Adam had his first dance to with her birth mother At Last by Etta James. It was Emily's way of having her mother involved in the big day.
"This is so not you," Emily laughed undoing his bowtie.
"Its your wedding I did it for you," Adam smiled.
"Thanks Daddy you can put your tennis shoes on too."
"I didn't think you saw me sneak them in.
"I didn't," she winked.
"Amazing," he said.
Happily they hugged then Adam let Eric cut in towards the end of the song. He was just as important as their father was to her and she wanted him included. When their song was over they did their handshake and moved out of the way for Elizabeth and David's mother son dance.
Elizabeth's smile was bright and proud as David twirled her around the dance floor. She loved Emily and thought she would make a great Queen some day. No one made her son or the palace happier than Emily and no one truly couldn't do the job better.
Once most of the formalities were taken care the party was kicked up a notch as everyone joined Emily and David out on the dance floor for some good fun. They partied hard dancing to the electric slide and partaking in the Italian custom of giving Emily money for a dance. Easily Emily slipped the money into her pockets and kept dancing in her comfortable Uggs. After a while it was time to cut the real wedding cake and do things the way they wanted to.
Emily and David followed Buddy to the center of the empty dance floor and gaped in awe as the cake rolled out to the middle of the dance floor. It was a six round-tiered cake with their definition of love wrapped around each tier in blue. The red velvet cake was perfect to Emily and David it was simple exactly how they wanted. Together they cut a slice and smashed it all over each other's faces. Laughing they shared a cake filled kiss then wiped the cake off of each other. After the cake was rolled off the dance floor the party continued for those who declined the cake.
"We are retiring for the night," Elizabeth said.
"Thank you so much," Emily smiled.
"You two were worth it," Albert winked.
"We will see you tomorrow for brunch," David promised.
With quick hugs Elizabeth and Albert made a quiet exit to another part of the palace. Immediately afterwards Emily was pulled out to the dance floor for the bouquet toss. Falling out laughing when Brooke caught the bouquet Emily was caught completely off guard by the garter toss. David had decided he didn't want to do it last time they had talked. Now his hands were roaming up her leg for the blue and sliver garter. Finding it mid thigh he slid it down off her leg and shot it in the air towards all the single men. Christopher just so happened to catch it and quickly gave it back.
"Well aren't you becoming American," Emily smirked sliding the garter up his left bicep.
"Best of both worlds," David smiled.
"I love you," she said happily.
"I love you too," he said kissing her.
For hours the party continued everyone burned up the dance floor together. Everything was perfect way to start their married life together. No other moment in their lives topped it or could top it until they started a family. Everything was perfectly the way they wanted it to be.
Eventually Emily and David's time came to an end. Having one last dance to 1+1 by Beyonce before going outside for end of the night fireworks. Happily they stayed in each other's arms completely content. Christopher handed out a late night snack, a grilled cheese sandwich to sop up the alcohol everyone had consumed.
"Babe," Emily said taking a bite of his sandwich, "where is the honeymoon?"
"Fiji," David smiled looking up at the sky.
Amazed Emily looked up as David untied his bowtie. Smirking David reached into his jacket that Emily was wearing and pulled out their tickets. Excitedly Emily kissed David then looked up at the last of the fireworks show. Life was great they were finally man and wife an ending and beginning eleven years in the making.
