With a groan I rolled over and switched off the alarm, scowling at the flashing red numbers 5:00. I would have loved to sleep in but I still had to make the days lunch and dinner before beginning my hour long trip to get to school. I looked over to the closet and gave a sigh of relief that I had remembered to hang up my uniform before I had staggered into bed last night. It was a white buttoned shirt with black trousers and a black tie. The jacket, which I had thrown on the back of the chair in the corner of the room the moment I had come home last night, was black with white trim along the hem and sleeves. I attended the prestigious Sieren high school which I would not have been able to afford in my life time if it wasn't for the fact I had scored high enough in the tests to earn a scholarship. Getting up from the futon I staggered into the bathroom for a shower to wake myself up.

Shower done and uniform on I put on an apron and proceeded to make my meals for the day. I had not worked much this past week due to exams, so my pay was small and such I only had rice and very little else to cook with. Sighing to myself I looked around the almost empty kitchen before spotting some left over pickled plums. I hummed happily as I grabbed it out, now at least I would have some flavouring to my onigiri today.

Meals done I packed my bag and started to the door. Walking past the mirror I stopped and couldn't help but sight at my reflection. My small face was so pale and I had the tell-tale bruising under my eyes of too little sleep. Apart from that my big blue eyes were still bright and framed by long black eye lashes. I had been mistaken as a girl many times in the past for my delicate and pretty face but now that no one took notice of me I wasn't bothered by my appearance too much. However my unruly blue hair was another matter. With another muted sigh I attempted to flatten it without much success. Looking down at my watch I cursed under my breath when I realised I had taken longer than I thought this morning and only had forty-five minutes to make it to school. Running out the small apartment I locked it behind me before bolting down the flight of stairs and out to the street.

"Kuroko Tetsuya?"

I raised my hand in reply to my name and called out quietly. The student taking roll call blinked twice to see me sitting at the back of the classroom as if I had just magically appeared. I heard giggles and ducked my head in embarrassment.

"It's Kuroko again!"

"How does he do it, I swear I was watching his seat the whole time this morning I thought for sure I would see him today!"

"Damn it, tomorrow for sure I will see him."

A black haired boy sitting beside me stood up, clapping his hands to grab everyone's attention.

"Ok, all bets are off, new game tomorrow!"

It was the same every morning, no one would notice me until I called out. I didn't mind it though, as it was my doing after all. I had made myself unnoticeable, invisible almost unless attention was drawn to me.

*Flash back*

I sat in the sandpit alone, digging a tunnel to connect the two sand castles I had made when a shadow had fallen over me. I had looked up into the hungry eyes of middle aged man who looked like he had just come out of his office. He licked his chops and grabbed my arm yanking me to my feet.

"Come on little boy I have some sweets for you."

This was the second time a complete stranger had tried to take me and I screamed and kicked, clawing at the hand holding me.

"Oi you little brat"- the man began before my flailing legs caught him in the shin. With a curse he backhanded me across my face and I feel back into the sand, blood dripping from my nose. When I looked up at the man again his eyes seemed to have darkened and he reached for me again, eying my bleeding face, his lips parted, almost in anticipation. I had cried out again, "Tiger, help!"
