Chapter 10

I stepped out of the car door that Kise was holding open for me, sunglasses covering his eyes and a hat on. We were out of the mansion and having a day of suit shopping and a day away from the crazy that my life had become in just a week. That morning Akashi had gathered me, his scions and the hunters together for breakfast. Well, breakfast for the hunters and myself the vampires had already drunk their fill that night.

"It was impossible to hide that fact that Tetsuya is with us since other vampires know about the night we saved him from Hanimya. The council has summoned me to present him to them and the other pure bloods."

At his words my hands went numb and I lost my appetite. Kagami stood up in outrage, "you think we would allow that?"

"Sit down dog." Growled Aomine.

"This is the way it has always been. If the Eve is successfully taken by a vampire they are to present themselves to the council. In the past there was much infighting and blood spilled from the clans trying to take possession of the Eve and so the council ruled that once the Eve was claimed by a pureblood they would present themselves to all the other clans. "

"Really it's just a giant 'screw you guys I won' type of thing."

"Is it safe though?"

This question came from Hyuga in-between wolfing down his bacon and eggs.

"On the surface and at the actual function yes." Said Midorima from the doorway.

"But?"

"There can be no promises before the event and sometimes after the event."

"But you just said this introduction was to make them see that Kuroko was with you! And that it would stop the fighting."

"You said once an Eve was claimed, I take that to mean there is more to it than just having him in your household."

Akashi's eyes flickered to the eagle-eyed Izuki and I saw respect in them. I felt my stomach grow even heavier knowing something was off.

"The claim is usually only after the Eve is with child."

My face warmed when everyone turned to look at me then. An Eve of great power and tasty blood, and male.

"So what you are saying is there is no guarantee it will work."

"But there is also no guarantee that it won't work either."

Akashi leant forward on the table, face in his hands.

"The problem here is that I have no choice in the matter. I argued for two days to get this overruled but just over half the council demanded it. I have many allies within the council and the pure bloods there would be no obvious or blatant attacks on us between now and the gathering but as it has been pointed out this is a strange and unique case. But the biggest problem we will face is Shogo Haizaki."

The room was quiet for a moment and I saw Kise pale at the name while Aomine's hands balled into fists but it was Kagami whose reaction was the greatest. He slammed his fist into the table, smashing a hole into it with ease. I jumped at the sound scared at the anger in his eyes.

"That bastard! I will kill him!"

Akashi was beside him then, forcing him back into his chair with one hand.

"Calm Kagami. I know your hatred is as great as ours towards that filth but there is nothing we can do about it. Hunters are not allowed near this gathering and as I have told you violence and attacks on the vampires attending is not allowed. There are strong vampire guards who would not hesitate to attack hunter, human, scion or pure blood who would disrupt the peace of a gathering."
