A streak of light flashes Colin's eyes.
It causes him to slam on the breaks. He could feel the impact of another vehicle rear ending him. It was so instant that at first he thought it was a nuclear bomb, but there was no blast and no heat. The light went away slowly. He just crossed the bridge into Pennsylvania. But when he looked behind him, he saw a cliff of nothing. Where New Jersey was now just a giant dirt hole slowly filling with water. Casey was still on the phone with him, she was screaming, trying to figure out what happened. Colin was shaking as he ended up driving into a parked car, cracking his front bumper. Colin picked up the phone and shouted "BABE ARE YOU STILL THERE?"
"Yeah, I'm here, what the actual fuck happened?" You could hear the anxiety in her voice, Colin felt bad.
"Whatever happened, New Jersey is gone, and everyone is gone."
Colin looked out over the abyss of water now filling up the void that was left of New Jersey. He was so confused as to what had happened. But he had no time to fret. It would be minutes before the waves would make it to the new shore.
He looked back at the car that rear ended him. The body inside was gone. All of his clothes were still there. Colin got chills down his spine.
"Look, I'll be there in 40 minutes, i love you" he hung up the phone and decided to drive into a convenience store. Colin didn't wanna risk being shot, so he went to the trunk of the back of his car and pulled out a 9mm pistol, but was just for self defense. He walked into the store, no one was there, the fans were still running and the power was still on, he didn't think much of it. He started packing some cases of water into the trunk. Bags of chips, canned pasta and tuna, and even some energy drinks. When he walked inside the store one more time, he saw a police car pull up, as he walked out with a few cans of chili, he threw them in the car and then backed away from the cop, the bald cop started walking towards him, clearly displeased at his shoplifting.
"I don't know what in god's name is happening, but I sure am taking you to the slammer for this regardless of what happened." The cop pulled out a baton, to where he sworn at Colin, he dodged, but it still hit him in the shoulder. A stabbing pain flooded his shoulder quickly, and without thinking. Colin pulled out the pistol, the cop tried to pull out his own gun, but Colin shot him before he could.
The body dropped to the floor. Colin was immediately filled with anxiety.
Great, now the end of the world has occurred and he shot a cop. "HOW, COULD THIS GOD DAMN DAY, GET ANY WORSE" He yelled out over the dead police officers body. He looted the cop and took his radio, handcuffs, the keys to his car, and his gun. Colin looked down at the cop and fretted. "I'm sorry man. I wish I didn't have to do that."
When Colin got back on the road. Casey called him.
"Hey babe, what is going on?"
Colin didn't lie "Well, you see babe, I looted a store and shot a cop and took all his stuff. So practically I am an anarchist now.
Casey screamed, "You shot a COP? What the fuck Colin babe I don't want you to get arrested!"
"I think murder is the least on anyone mind right now. I feel terrible for it. He was trying to arrest me and beat me with a baton for doing nothing. Yeah I was taking food but 200 feet away was a giant hole of dirt."
"Okay, listen Colin... Please try not to get killed." She blows a kiss and hangs up.
Colin is almost a few miles away from her home, odds are he'll make it. That is if no more cops try to get to him and arrest him.
