A finger snap awakens the daydreaming Colin, Tom shakes him back into reality. "You really have a thing for daydreaming, don't you?" as he pats him on the shoulder.
"Yeah, start seeing things and you will understand." Colin stand up and leans through the window outside the warehouse.
The vines weren't as high as he expected them to be but it had only been a year and a half since everything began. He would need to wait another 10 years for that.
Colin had constant daydreaming, it was nothing bad but if any threat came while he was in his head he could be unprepared for a battle. He had Asperger's, which meant bad social cues and bad social timing. But also meant a more better artistic photo painted in his head. He could see things better from the past. Hence the daydreaming he always did.
He always wanted a escape out of this world. Either he would realize this was all a dream in a coma and wake up next to his family, pr he would be awoken by the gods of the world, that this is his heaven. Colin had even contemplated suicide as a way to see if this was fake or not during the first hours. But he never wanted to kill himself. He could never do it. He needed to be here, to help Tom and Casey survive this.
With the exception of the man who was swallowed the night before. They hadn't talked to another human in two months.
Tom ended up walking into one of the storage rooms and taking stock of what supplies they have left before they need to get more.
Colin keeps watch throughout the windows in the front and listening to music. He opens his iPhone and scrolls through it, there has been no service for over a year now but the phone and the music he had downloaded still worked, and even the games he had still worked. He powered the phone using a solar battery charger he would leave on the roof at night. But music helped him focus through everything.
He flipped through song after song, hearing bits and pieces of songs by Linkin Park, Bring Me the Horizon, Green Day, Panic! At the Disco and others. Finally, he reaches the song "S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W" by "My Chemical Romance". As the opening guitar riff starts he takes a deep breath and looks outside. He is reminded of what life used to be like for him before all of this. How simple the world was and after years of hating humans, he finally had a tolerance. He is reminded of how his family was, and how all of his other friends acted around him. How the world was just great and beautiful. Now it ended up becoming a wasteland taken over by demons and people that kill others on site, this isn't what Colin wanted to happen when the world ended.
While he listens to music, the song switches to "R.I.P 2 My Youth" by "The Neighbourhood".
Suddenly, flashes come out of the vines. It was another attack. Colin ducks down and blows the whistle he has on his neck that's trying to alert the others. He raises his gun and begins to fire blind out towards the others and when he looks up all of a sudden, all he sees a bright light and the force of the light has him thrown back in the wall. Colin falls on his back.
He lays there and hears screaming and explosions. Then the sky beings to brighten, he's not dying, at least not yet. He is just looking into the sun. Colin begins to think if he is dying or not from what happened.
Before Colin blacks out. He hears this line of the song he was listening too at the time.
"Close my eyes and then cross my arms, put me in the dirt, let me be with the stars"
