Chapter 16: Questions

It didn't feel like she had slept for a whole day the next time she woke up, more like merely minutes. A dull pain throbbed inside her head and she furrowed her brow in discomfort before she opened her eyes. The sunlight seeping into her window illuminated Grim and Roth's face as they sat beside her bed, waiting for her to wake up.

Roth slapped Grim's shoulder, who sat reading a book, when he saw that Evelyn was awake.

"I thought another century would pass before you awoke." Roth joked with a bright smiled that conveyed he was happy to see her well.

Evelyn rolled her eyes playfully before asking, "How long have I been out?"

Grim shrugged, "Just a day."

Evelyn's eyes widened.

A whole day she had slept and her condition was left on its own.

Could it have gotten worse?

Was there anyway of treating it?

She wasn't even very sure what her condition was.

The questions clouding her thoughts caused the dull pain in her head to flare up a bit and she cleared her mind.

"I must see the Beast." She decided and got out of bed a bit too quickly, however, and had to stagger to get her balance. Roth grabbed her arm and helped her steady herself.

She met his blue eyes and then suddenly realized she was just in her sleeping gown. She squeaked before quickly grabbed a dress and hid behind a changing screen to get dressed.

This earned a soft chuckle from Roth and an eye roll from Grim.

"You really should stay in bed, I'm sure that is what the Beast would wish."

"I don't care what he wishes right now," Evelyn said defiantly as she stepped out from the screen and began to brush her hair. "I have too many questions and I need answers now."

"He doesn't like to be disturbed." Grim said shaking his head.

Evelyn ignored him and turned to Roth, he always seemed the more compliant and kinder of the two. "Where is he?"

"He's in the library."

Evelyn nodded in thanks and quickly made her way out of her room with Roth and Grim following behind. She was faced with a split path, one corridor leading to the right, and the other leading to the left. She shrugged ad stepped toward the corridor leading to the right.

"You're going the wrong way." Roth said quietly behind her, humor dancing in his tone.

Evelyn stopped and sighed heavily before turning to the two.

"Look, I'm not afraid of what he's going to do, I just need answers. So either help me find the library or leave me to find it on my own."

Roth and Grim shared a very skeptical look before the both stepped forward and began to lead the way. The path to the library proved to be a very intricate route consisting of many turns and stairs, and she knew that she would not be able to find it on her own.

They traveled in silence as she absorbed the beauty, and sadness, of the castle.

Suddenly both Roth and Grim stopped in front of a large wooden door, which Evelyn assumed to be the entrance to the library.

The message was clear.

They were not going in.

She gulped down a bit of fear that threatened to rise and she placed her hand on the door whispering.

"What do I have to lose?"

"Oh, you know, just your head." Grim joked before he and Roth started walking away.

Evelyn shook her head, laughing lightly, and pushed the door open.

Short update because I felt bad for making you all wait so long :)

Who's ready for some answers? *raises hand*
