TESSA: HYDRA BASE
PRESENT DAY
~{}~
I hit the bag over and over again. He wouldn't let me stop until my knuckles bled. I trained with the guns and hand-held weapons. No stopping until every single bullet and knife hit dead center. Then, he sent the recruits on me. It was the worst part of training. These people didn't know that they were only hired to die. By me. I had to do it, or he would whip me again. Or cut me. Or send me to the Brick room. I took down the first one with a kick to the stomach and I snapped his neck.
The next one pulled out a gun on me, but I easily ripped it out of his hands and I shot him in the head.
The third stealthy recruit came up behind me and swept my legs out from under me. I did a back somersault and kicked him in the face. It caught him off guard and I smashed his head against the floor.
The fourth recruit threw a punch, which was a really big mistake. I grabbed his wrist and flipped him over, held the gun to his face, then stopped. I saw the look of fear on his face. I couldn't do it again. I couldn't kill again. I heard the last one behind me, but I shot him before he knew what he was getting into. My last bullet. I turned back to the fourth one, but he was gone and behind me before I realized it. He put me in a headlock and held tight no matter how many times I tried to get him off. Finally, I struggled for air. I tapped him off.
Sweat was running down my face and back when I sat down, without a drink. They didn't do that there. My long, brown, wavy hair fell in my face.
"C'mon, I've seen you do better, you miserable idiot," Stan, my 'trainer', growled as he stood over me. I said nothing. He probably knew why today was a hard day for me. Then a grin formed on his face. "Oh, today's 3 months since that guy tried to help you escape, isn't it?" He smirked. "The day you saved him but he didn't save you."
"Shut up, Stan," I murmured.
"You're never going to get out of here. Hawkeye isn't coming, Tessa."
"Yes, he is," I said a little louder. "He promised."
"Face it, Tessa. He's not going to save you just because you saved him one time!" His voice was getting louder with every word.
"He promised me, Stan!" I stood up and got in his face. I shouted back as loud as I could, "It's not like you know anything about those, though, huh?!"
"Tessa, shut up!" He half-yelled, getting some guards' attention. "He gave up on you. He doesn't even know that we're in Alaska right now. You mean nothing to him. Clint Barton doesn't care about you anymore!"
The mention of his name broke me. "Never say his name!" I screamed. I threw myself at him, and knocked him down onto the floor. I was throwing punch after punch with all that was left in me. All the hope and faith poured out into rage and anger. Well after Stan's nose was broken, the guards were finally able to pull me off of him. I didn't stop fighting them until they pulled out the guns. "Okay, okay, I'm done,"I said, holding up my hands in surrender.
"Take her back to her cell," Stan said while he pushed his hands on his face to stop the bleeding. The three - no, four - guards started to lead me out of the room when Stan stopped the guards. "You know what, just leave her here." Please, no, no, no, not this, not now. "We have some business to discuss over how many lashes she gets today. I will take her back." Of course, today of all days. The guards nodded and left me with Stan.
He dragged me back to my cell which was not far from the training room. It was almost empty. There was a piece of fabric that I used as a blanket, and chains attached to the wall, but that was it. Occasionally there was the blood.
Stan put me in the chains attached to he wall. The cuffs had spikes on the inside that dug into your wrists. I winced as he tightened them around my wrists and feet more than he usually did, which hurt really bad. I stared down at the floor, knowing what was coming. The man grabbed my face with his hands and looked me straight in the eye.
"Tessa, you are lucky I'm not going to kill you," he said softly. "But you - you have a gift. Evan said so himself." (Evan was in charge around this base.)
"What gift?" I croaked. Ignoring the gift that this horrible place gave me, I was honestly the worst person ever. I made the most intimidating face I could at the moment. "I'm useless and worthless. You said so yourself."
"You are a 12 year old assassin. Something I could never be." Stan's face softened. "You are a talented killer." I flinched when he said the k-word. "I know you will stay with HYDRA and do the right thing. You are the only person that is decent around here. But now, you have to be punished." He pulled the whip out of his pocket. "Orders from Evan can't be left alone." He raised it and I closed my eyes. I then heard a bomb go off outside which shook my cell, knocking Stan down.
"What going on, Evan?" Stan said into his walkie-talkie.
"The Avengers are here," a firm voice replied.
"Uh-oh." Stan gulped. "Send every recruit out to fight them."
"I know what I'm doing, I'm in charge!" A yell came back. Stan gave a quick glance at me, then ran out of the room.
Great. All that there's left to do is just hope they don't kill you.
