News of the immortal fairy reached the village and the word of the key spread like wild fire. It seemed as though the entire town was talking about it. The Woodmer family on the other hand could have cared less. They lived in a stone house many,  many, years old farther into the bush. They were close enough to go to town to sell the things they grew and raised on their farm but, they mostly kept to themselves.

Mr and Mrs. Woodmer had two children. A fifteen year old daughter Maple and her 11 year old brother Jack.

Maple was tall for her age. She had brown chestnut hair, pale skin and freckles on her nose. She was not a girly girl, not really a tom boy. She liked to get dirty gardening and exploring but loved dresses and fine fabrics with a raging passion. Although one of  her flaws had been that she hated to be fussed over or worried about.

Her brother, Jack unlike Maple had blond hair and had not yet entered puberty. He was about as wimpy and out of shape as you good get, yet slim like a popsicle stick. Lots of girls in the village had fallen head over heels for him just after one look. Jack had freckles  too and wore large shoes to hide his freakishly large feet. To his advantage though he was mentally advanced in school even though he hadn’t the body of a man. His one flaw, Jack got scared of everything!

Both children were mentally and physically strong even if they didn’t look it  and did not spend a lot of time playing around. Maybe the reason that they did not listen or talk about such rummer’s of an immortal being was because neither of them believed in magic, anything used, created or dreamt of with and by your imagination. Mostly, Maple. She was your every day teen, physically developed and like most girls of her age  helped her mother all day with the cooking and the laundry. While her brother preferred to help their father with the more manly chores  like feeding the animals and using the plow.  The two were never ready for what was coming their way.
