The shuffling of the cashier behind the counter and his rough voice aroused him from his thoughts.

"That'll be $7.05 please," The cashier drawled, setting the box on the counter between them, quirking his eyebrow. Jungkook licked his lips and hoped that the nervous shaking his hand was doing wasn't too obvious. After paying, he snatched up the box of tampons and made his way to the door, ignoring the quiet 'pussy whipped' thrown at him by the cashier. What a douchebag.

The air outside was crisp, biting at his nose as he buried himself deeper into his baggy sweatshirt and began speed walking home. He quickly ascended the stairs as he made it back to the apartment where he and his mom lived, opening the door quietly and high-tailing it to his room before he could be noticed.

"Ji-hye!" His mother called from the couch, her back turned towards him. Jungkook frowned at the name, biting the inside of his cheek and pondering ignoring whatever his mother was going to request.

She wasn't... unsupportive. At least, not to the extreme. She just simply ignored him after what had happened. She chose to brush it off and continue to live life the way it was before, but with more cigarettes and beer than warm smiles and brownies. When Jungkook's voice started dropping, and his build started to get broader and more muscular, she ignored it. When Jungkook accidentally injected his prescription into a vein and it swelled to the size of a golfball, she ignored it. When he broke down on the couch, right next to her, she took another drag and ignored it.

     It could be worse.

"Ji-hye!" She called again, louder. "Go make food, mommy's had a long day at work."

"Sure mom." Jungkook sighed, depositing the tampons in his small bedroom. He'll put them in the bathroom after he's cleaned it, it's pretty gross in there. Making his way to the kitchen, Jungkook assumed there'd be nothing in the cupboards but instant noodles and those miniature wine bottles, but he was wrong.

Put simply, Jungkook was taken aback. There was actual, tangible food in their cupboards for once. It wasn't much, cans of fruit and soups, some bread... But it was new. Furrowing his brow and picking out the nearest can, turning it around in his hand, he called to his mom; "When did you buy food...?"

"I didn't," She took a drag of her cigarette and finally shifted her eyes from the tv to her child. "There's a new family across the hall, the Kims." She quirked her eyebrow and coughed a little. "They came over to visit and saw that we had no 'food', and came back an hour later with enough to feed an army."

"That's charitable of them. Most people wouldn't do that." Jungkook mused, setting the can back in the cupboard and pulling out the bread to make them sandwiches.

"Mm." His mom hummed, "They have a boy a little older than you, figured you could go introduce yourself to him when you got home. Maybe he could set you straight."

Jungkook bit his lip at the comment and glared at the messy plate sandwiches in front of him, setting the knife down. He brought the plate over to his mom without saying a word and made his way back to his room, collapsing on his mattress on the ground. Burying his face in his pillow, he closed his eyes and sighed. He had work early in the morning, it's not worth it to cry.
