Chapter 10

I'm sitting on my bed, trying to figure out what I'm doing about Channing when I hear a loud sound of the guitar.

Immediately I get pissed.

"Matt, turn it down!" I go storming downstairs.

Dad mutes the TV, frowning.

"It's not us, kiddo."

The song starts to sing, and the voice is so good, I get chills.

Desperate for changing, starving for truth

I'm closer to where I started, I'm chasing after you

"It sounds almost like it's coming from outside." Dad frowns.

I'm literally in a sports bra and spandex right now.

He and Matt are disappointed in me for leaving Channing.

I am too.

I know deep, deep down, that I love him, but he's right.

I'm scared. What if he leaves?

He next line comes, and we all stand here, confused.

Realization strikes me.

It's Channing.

"Oh god." I mutter.

I yank back the curtain to the living room window.

He's out there all right.

"He's going old fashioned." Dad says. "I like him even more."

I let go of the curtain.

"Camilla!" Dad yells after me when I run upstairs.

He keeps singing.

Forgetting all I'm lacking, completely incomplete

I'll take your invitation, you take all of me now

I pull jeans over my spandex and a long sleeve shirt on, and my coat and shoes.

I'm running and not quite sure where to go

And I don't know what I'm diving into

I pace around in my room, and finally, I realize something.

He's not giving up.
