"So who's the guy you got paired with again?" he asked me as he tapped on the steering wheel in tune to the song that was playing on the radio. After group yesterday I had called Grey to bitch about doing this dumb partner project as if I was back in middle school.
"Eli Evens, apparently he's in his last year of high-school so you wouldn't have met him before" I said glancing out the window as we made our way to get food. "Is he cute?" Grey asked smirking as he stared straight ahead, Grey was always telling me that since I didn't meet girls I liked enough to stay with I should try to bat for the other team.
"You're the bisexual one you tell me if he's cute, if you ever come to group again" I snorted as we pulled into the parking lot of a McDonald's. When I found out that Grey was also attracted to the same sex I wasn't put off by it one bit, he was still my best friend even if every once in a while he got it on with a guy, it didn't change anything.
Grey and I had become friends one day when he had bumped my shoulder in the hallway at the college we both attended and I ended up throwing him against a wall, which then resulted in us getting into one big brawl in the hallway until we were escorted outside. Once we had cooled down he had shook my hand telling me I had a mean right hook and we'd been close ever since, I wasn't really sure how it all happened but I was glad it did.
We walked up to order and the girl behind the cash register smiled at us looking like she wanted to say something. "We'll take two cheeseburgers with fries and two milkshakes" Grey told her as he dug out his wallet and began taking out cash to pay.
"It's my turn to pay so the milkshake is to make up for not being there yesterday" he said turning back to the girl to hand her the money. "Are you two together?" she gushed as she took the money and got Grey his change, Grey laughed and slung his arm around my shoulders, "No, I'm not that lucky" he said smacking a kiss to my cheek.
I shoved him off me and gave him the bird, grabbing the bag I started to the door when my phone went off in my pocket. "Here idiot hold the food" I told Grey handing the bag off to him as I reached in my back pocket for my phone.
ELI: Hey
I quickly glanced at Grey before I typed out my reply as the two of us headed towards his car. We had plans to eat our food out on the beach before going for a surfing session since it was such a beautiful day outside.
ME: What is it?
If he wanted to get together to start the partner project it wasn't going to happen today, I had sick waves and blue skies calling my name everything else was being put on the backburner. Grey was driving us to our usual surf spot as I waited for Eli to reply since I knew he was going to.
ELI: What are you up to today?
"Who are you texting, you never text" Grey said peaking over at me from the driver's seat. He was right of course, I hated texting... really I just hated communicating with people unless they were someone I enjoyed talking to.
"Eli, he's asking me what I'm doing today" I shrugged, "Tell him to send you a picture of what he looks like so I can rate his cuteness" Grey said punching me in the arm with a grin. "Yeah that's a big not happening" I said giving him a look.
ME: I'm going surfing so I can't talk
I hit the send button and turned my phone off before he had the chance to reply to that. I hoped that Eli wouldn't start getting preconceived ideas that we were going to become bestfriends and give each other nicknames or some shit.
All I wanted to do was get this partner project over with and then never have to deal with him again, I mean come on I was twenty years old and going on twenty-one pretty soon. I had no interest in hanging around some seventeen or eighteen year old kid.
