his thoughts omitted

ceremonies held but

there was no worship,

he gnawed on sacrifice

'til he chipped his tooth

and then he swallowed it.


lo she yonder wails at he

with butterflies to swell!

"and all of life is meaningless,"

he rues himself to hell.


her notion flickers

a black hole in Florida,

quiet love existing in

two time zones,

she eats from Eden

blasphemy ridden

on the calvary of

gentlemen;


he listens faintly

the church bells ringing

his throat dry

fingertips numb

and all the angels are singing.


he writes her

an obituary

on the back

of his hand,


she untouchable

defeats death

holds him dear

bows her head,


but still he says,

"all the world is dead."
